Skow, county home demonstration agent, has re turned to Eugene from Corvallis where she was instructor at the annual two weeks' Four-H club summer session nt the state college. More than 7iH) club girls attended the sessions this year and J1 coun ties of the stat" were represented. In spite of the economic depres sion, the total enrollment for the two weeks session this ye:ir showed an Increase of approximately f0 club members more than nny previous year, according to records of the state club office. The girls outnumbered the boys at the summer session this year nearly two to one. Of the total num ber of clubbers present, nearly half were holders of scholarships won as n reward for outstanding work in their club, proiects Inst year. Ap proximately VJO of these were state fair scholarships awarded to first place winners at the state fair last year. The majority of the other club members enrolled were either delocdtes of their respective clubs which had earned tlie money to send them, or hoys ami girls who hail earned the money to pny their own wav. Each morning during the session was given over to class work. In cluding, for the boys, all phases of agriculture, and for the girls various branches of home economics work. Tn addition, both boys nnd girls were given instruction in club news writ ins, first aid. lienlth and photography, ltegular assemblies ocupied from one to two hours each afternoon, with prominent men of the state as spenkers. Supervised classes In tumMIng, basketball, nuoitennis. d.'incTng, volley ball, swimming and similar sports provided exercise for the girls, while classes and ton run men ts were scheduled for the boys in baseball, tennis, volleyball and other games. EMERY INSURANCE The Emery Insurance agency of this city has been sold to Hawkins and Koherts, loan nnd investment firm with headquarters nt Salem and maintaining a Eugene branch with Hex S:mford as local manager. Announcement of the deal wns made Saturday by Mr. Sanford and Charles M. Emery, head of the Insurance company. Larger office rooms will be obtained in the near future to make room for the com hined firms and Mr. Emery will be associated with the firm nnd will take the entire personnel of his com pany to the ncv offices. He will have charge of the Insurance depart ment here and it will still be operated under the name of Emery Insurance company, it is Announced. The Emery Insuranco company has been doing business In Eugene for the past 12 years and has grown into one of the largest institutions of its kind In the stnte. Hawkins is president of the company and is vice-president and treasurer of the Commonwealth Trust and Title company of Port land, which is a consolidation of the Eipiitable Savings nnd Loan associa tion, Strong and McNaughlon and the Devereaux Mortgage company. Hawkins and Roberts have main tained an office in Eugene for the past year or more and are located in the Graham building on West Broadway where the combined local companies will do business until larger quarters nro obtained.
