Several of the younc people were in the water Monday afternoon. While the atmosphere was warm the water was too cold to atny in for any length of time. The swimming pool will be the most popular place now in the afternoons for the Beit four months. High water did a little dnmnca to the awimming hole on the Anderson place, washing some of the holes a little deeper so the one. who spend their time wading cannot venture in so far. The Anderson ranch has the best swimming hole around here' if the crowds of young people on the bank warm afternoons are proof of that fact. Some, time, as high as twenty five or more are at the phice in nn afternoon. Tlie.v also go back eve ning, but do not stay long after the sun goes down. The pool where they swim is fed by the cold wnters of the McKenzie and cools quickly at night. Oakridge Pupils Get Penmanship Awards OAKMDOE, May 13. (Special) William A. (Special) Several passengers on train num ber 6 ffoing to Eunene Sunday wer made ill by the carbon mon-oiide gas when tha train waa forced to stand in th tunnel between Oakridfje and Westfir. A freifiht train had just started to Eugene ' and the engine threw a tire just the other side of the tunnel and the passenger train leaving shortly afterwards waa forced to remain in the tunnel about ten minutes. It waa necessary to send for another enirine so the passenger train waa returned to the depot and it was several hours before the damage was cleared up bo the train could leave for Eugene. This la the second time in six months that trains havo been forced to remain in the tunnel. The first was a freight train and a number of transients were fn tally gassed and several othera made seriously ill. Walterville Hold Mothers Day Meeting WALTERVH.LeT May 13. The morning sermon by Mr, Hicks from Yonealla wns on Mothers Day. The church waa beau tifully decorated with tulips, dog wood, ferns and other flowers. Ten beautiful bouquets of tulips were rasteiuily arranged by Mrs. U. K. Sylvester and Mr. Huckins. In the evening a boumiet of (he tulins wns presented to each family represented at the church service. Those re ceiving the flowers were Mrs. Z. C. Potter. Mrs. C. R. Sylvester. Mrs. Jim Huckins. Erma Enston, Martha Campbell, Myra Smeed and Mr. Hicks. For the evening f E. service, sev eral members of the local endeavor went to Fulrmount where they made a return visit to the Fatrmount Pres byterian C E. societv. The evenine lesson was a Mothers Dny topic nnd the licht was furnished by red. blue and white candles. The ends of the news were decorated with roses nnd streamers in honor of the Wnl- terville C.
