Hershey expresned confidence in the ability of tlie plane to fly, but be cause of the wind blowing crosswise over the runway and the fact that the ship is rather difficult to manage on the turns, he did not try to lift, so the flight was postponed while wait ing for more favorable wind condi tions. Mr. Scroggs stated that a sec ond attempt would probably be made either late Saturday afternoon or Sunday. Sffimfien SPRINGFIELD, Dec. 13. (Spe cial) The second and final perform ance of 'Aunt Luciu" at the high school Friday uight was even better than the first, according to those who saw the play both nights. Again all tho characters received much praise from the audience for the way in which they bundled their parts. A good crowd saw the show Friday night, and the members of Spring field post No. 40, American Legion, have expressed themselves as more than HHtinfted with the way the play went over. Miss Buth Craft, of the l.'ni versa! Producing company, di rected the play. Lions Have Dinner Mr. and Mrs. V. C. McLngnn, who art leaving Springfield noon to make their home in North Bend, were hon ored by members of the Lions club Friday night when they met at the community hall for dinner. This meet ing took tlie place of their regular luncheon meeting. There was no business, but Dr. W. C. Bebhan as president of tlie club gave n short address of farewell. .Mr. McLaglan is to lw superintendent of the new Mountain States Power company's plant at North Mend. New Club Formed "Buenos Muchnchas de Las" is the name of a new club organized by a group of high school girls when they met at the Home or Adaline i'erkms Friday evening. Officers of the club include: Barbara Adanu. president; Evelyn Harris, secretary and treas urer; Helen Mersdorf, news reporter; Lois Rogers, social promoter: Ada- line Perkins, chairman of the friend ship committee. The group will meet every two weeks at the home of dif ferent members. Friday the evening was spent in dancing and making candy. , Reorganize C, t. Two new departments were added to the Christian Endeavor at their last meetings, and the group is to be reorganized entirely. Tho service committee and the lookout commit tee are the two new sections of the organization. The former, under the chairmanship of Dora Petersen, is to look after all Interested of the Chris tian Kndeavor, to help the church in any way. and to visit and help mem bers who are sick. Girls Sell Stamps At a booth iu the Irish-Murpby store on Fifth and Main streets mem bers of the Girls' League at the high school sold Christmas seals all day Saturday. They will maintain a sim ilar booth next Saturday. This is the League's part of the cumpaigu to sell the seals. Christmas Party Planned At their regular meeting Friday afternoon at tlie home of Mrs. C. E. Swarts members of the Kensington club laid plans for their Christmas party which is to be held the evening of December at the home of Mrs. S. C. Wright, Mrs. L. L. May, Mrs. C. E. Kenyon and Mrs. W. E. Buell were appointed to serve on ine re freshment committee, while Mrs. W. K. Barnell and Mrs. A. J. Morgan will plan the entertainment. Gifts will be exchanged and a Christmas tree Is planned. At the meeting Friduy 12 members of the club were present. Mrs. Alice Barrett and Mrs. B. A. Wflbhbume were guests. Churches Busy The churches are busy with their Christmas programs now, and every one seems to be having a part in one or another of them. In the mean time, Christinas topics are occupying more and more time iu the regular Sunday services. Methodist Church Sunday school will begin nt 9:45 at the Methodist church, and at the morning service Bev. C. J. Pike, the pastor, will speak on, "Your Enemy." Epworth League meetings at 0:110, and at the 7:110 service tlie topic chosen by the pastor is "Full Ad vantage." The Sunday school is work ing ou a Christmas program which will probably be given ou Christmas eve. Christian Church "Before Christinas" is tlie sermon topic taken by Yeltie l'ruitt at the Christian church for the morning service Sunday. Mr. Pruitt will also sing a solo. The women's missionary society will have charge of the eve ning service, ut which Mrs. Thomas Bailey will give the principal address. Miss Irene Brumfield will pantomime "O Zion, Haste," lis Miss L'ldine Gar ten sings the solo. A reading by Mrs. M. It. Fvans will follow, and the pro gram will conclude with n vocal duet by Mrs. Roland Moshier and Mrs. D, B. Murphy. The regular orchestra concert will begin at 7:''0. Christian Kndeavor will meet at 0:110. The Bible school is working on n Christmas program to bo presented next Sun day, December "1, at the Bible school hour. Miss Frances Travis is in charge. Miss Brumfield is directing a play, "They That Sit in Darkness," which will be presented nt the eve ning service the same Suimnj. Baptist Church Itev. D. K. Baker of Eugene will he the speaker ut the morning serv ic of the Baptist church Sunday, when his topic will be "A Passion for Souls." In the evening at, 7:'Mi the pre-sermon topic chosen by the pas tor, Rev. Ralph Mulholland. is "Ben Lindsey-Bishop Manning Affair.' He has chosen for his sermon the sub ject, "The Power of an Endless Life." The choir will meet at 2:30 Sunday to practice the cantata which they will give n week from Tuesduy. The cus of Gilbert and Delbert Watson,' 15 years old, who are charged with assault and battery on Glenn B. Wood, principal of Brattain school, was turned over to juvenile authorities in Kugene. Their case will not be brought before the court "un til next week, since the juvenile judge, C. P. Barnard, is out of town. The Itoys are alleged to have struck Wood when he attempted to separate two Isiys who were fighting near the school yard. John F. Ketels Sr. left for Ore gon City Saturday. Magoou. noted American big game hunter and his wife, Aubrey, were found dead in their bedroom today. Police said they were working on the theory that Dr. Magoon attacked his wife with some heavy instrument nnd then killed himself. Besides a big game hunter. Dr. Magoon was a well known dentist. Mrs. Magoon came from Oregon two months ago witli her two daughters by a previous mamage. Potato Larcenist Gets Thirty Days Ivan Bryant, 20, was sentenced to 'to days in the county jail Saturday when he pleaded guilty to larceny be fore Judge Harold J. Wells. He was arrested late Friday afternoon by deputy sheriffs.
