Brown, for three years Hudson Essex dealer in Eugene, has been appointed Btudebaker dealer in this territory succeeding the Sweet-Drain Auto company. The dealership will be taken over im mediately by Sir. Brown. It Is undrstond that Mr. Brown will retain the Hudson Ksssx sales In this territory, and with the. two linen will have automobiles represent ing a price range from ?505 to $2700. A complete lint of automobiles of the makes bandied under the two dealerships will be on display Fri day at the Brown Motor compnny headquarters, 842 Pearl street. This will include Studebaker cars and trucks. . Mr, Brown, in a statement, assur ed both old and prospective Stude baker owners of his Intention to give the best possible service. In con nection, he Is sending Claude Shell of the local compnny to the Stude baker factory at South Bend. Ind iana, where he will attend the Stude baker school to obtain a thorough training In Studebaker sales and service work. Mr. Brown, ft was said, was select ed for the dealership here because of his reputation as a sound, pro gressive business man who enjoys the confidence of the public. Ma lil on Sweet, who has held the Studebaker dealership here for sev eral years as head of the Sweet Drain Auto compnny, said thnt he was not ready to announce his plans for the future. Port Flood Lights To Be Reused Soon Flood lights at the Eugene airport will probably be raised about five feci higher In an effort to eliminate a shadow which is cast on the field with the. lights at their present height, according to W, 0. Clubb, Jr., city engineer. All other Vgbtlng equipment at the airport Is working efficiently, Mr. Club stated. BE HELD MONDAY Eugene Is expected to send a good sized delegation to the meeting of the Willamette River Development association at Oregon City next Mon day night, according to A. F, H. Steele, secretary of the chamber of commerce. Springfield will also be represented. At thia meeting the organization will be perfected with the election of a hoard of directors, officers having already been selected. A report on the survey of potential freight tonnage for a barge line on the river when the improvements ar made In the channel will be submitted at this meeting, said Mr. Steele. lie and Foster Steele of the Cascade na tional forest office were busy Friday compiling figures on timber and pos sible lumber tonnage. CHRISTMAS SEAL SALE LI Twenty-two persons from various porta of the couuty attended the Christmas seal sale luncheon Thurs day noon iu the home economics department building at the univer sity. The seal chairmen were enter tained by Mrs. Bishop Tingle, county chairman. The luncheon was prepared and served by the home economics classes of the university. A general discussion of the pro gram of the Lane County Public Health association and the Oregon Tuberculosis association was held. Dr. W. V. Hicks of Junction City told the chairmen that there is now only one death from tubercu losis for every 12 active cases. There were 18 deoths tin Lane county last year from tuberculosis, he said. Bessie Williams, county health nurse, said Lane county has JO persons in the sanitarium nean Salem, and there are 14 on the wuiting list. Beth Konkel. executive secretary of the Lane County Public Health association, compared the work In lane county with the programs oj other counties, particularly in regard to expenditures. She pointed out that although Lane county Is larger than than other counties in southern Oregon carrying on the work, the other counties are spending more for berth h and prevention of disease. Jackson county, with a population of H'JMDTt budgeted f 12,500 this yeor. Douglas county with 21,1)38 penpln budgeted $K,000. Coos budget ed $11.1-0 for the work among ita 28.338 people. Lane, it was pointed out, budgeted $3,3! 15 last year for a population of 54.404. Those present at the meeting were Mrs. (J. T. Howard Dunlap, 65, Passes Suddenly Howard Dunlnp of West Spring field died suddenly at his home Fri day morning. His death was report ed aa probably caused by enrome heart disease complicated by acute indigestion. Mr. Dunlap was about 65 years old and Is believed to have a sister living in the St. Johns section of Portland. He lived alone and little is known of him here. The remainn are at the Walker-Poole chapel at Springfield. Boy Scouts Will Swim in Gym Pool The Boy Scout orcanizatlons in Lane county have been given the privilege of using the swimming pool in the men's gymnasium at the uni versity every Saturday, it was an nounced Friday bv H. B. Sal lee. county Scout executive. - The hours will be from 2 to 3 p. m. beginning Saturday. Novem ber 29. The different groups through out the county will .be given separate dates. OF George O'Donnell, 57. passed n0y Thursday night at the Pacific Chris tian hoHpital without regaining con sciousness after being knocked down by a hit and run motorist at Junc tion City Wednesday night. - O'Donnell was hit while crossing the Pacific highway, sustaining a con cussion of the brain and bodily in juries. Witnesses of the accident tried to follow the fleeing motorist but lost din trail after he had turned off the highway. Mr. O'Donnell was born fn Ireland but has made his home in Oregon for a number of years. For a period of about three years around 1018, he was employed as a printer on the Junc tion City. Times. Previous to that he was employed on the Harrisburg Bulletin. Recently he operated a cigar store In Junction City. He is survived by a sister some where in California and a brother. Tom O'Donnell of Vancouver, WTasb. Funeral services will be held Sun day afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Miller chattel at Junction City, with Rev. Drake of the Methodist church in charge. The Woodmen of the World of which lodge he was a member, will be in charge of services at the grove in the I. O. O. F. cemetery. Coroner W. W. Branstetter was In Junction City Friday afterooon con ducting an inquest on Mr. O'Donnell's death. Safeway to Conduct Home-Maker Bureau A new feature in food store service is the Homemnkers' bureau, which has been established by the Safeway stores. The bureau has as ita pur pose the furnishing of practical and helpful information to householders, and it will be broadcast over radio KGW, Portland, each Tuesday end Friday at 11:10 o'clock. Among the things which are to be featured in the broadcasts .are meal planning, entertaining, advice in spending, and advice in making small homes on limited incomes. Brother Passes at Seattle on Thursday I Mrs. E. Charier, Mrs. N. ,T. Nudel man and Meyer Rubenstein were called to Portland Thursday bv the death of their brother, Jacob Ruben- stem at Seattle on Thursday.
