Report of loss es must wait until the return of Mrs. Jenks from Tangent; Mr. Jenks is in Chicago. A next door neighbor, Mrs. Fred Bernardi, noticed an open window in . a bedroom and called Robert White who notified police. RECKLESS DRIVING CHARGE Robert M; Cunningham, jr., was released Thursday on $50 bail following his arrest late W'ednes day on a charge of reckless driv ing with liquor involved. Accord ing to police reports, Cunning--ham was chased from Capitol and Center streets to 2100 Fair grounds rd. while he was driv ing in an erratic manner. ROSE SHOW PLANNED Plans for a visit from R. C. Al len, secretary! of the American Rose society here Thursday, March 7, were made at the regular meet ing of the new Salem Rose society last night at : the YMCA. Plans are being made for a rose show here in June. Salem Elks to Conduct Rites For Dr. Smith i The Salem Elks lodge will con duct a ritualistic funeral service 8t 1:30 p. m., Saturday in Clough- Barrick chapel for Dr. Thomas C. Smith, former Salem resident who was one of two surviving charter members of ihe local lodge, No. 338. Dr. Smith, 75, died at his home in Portland this week after an ill ness of several months. Following the service interment will be made in City View cemetery. . Dr. Smith was the son of a pioneer regon dentist Col. T. C. Smith, and himself practiced dent istry for many years in Salem, his birthplace. Shortly after the first world war he gave up his practice and moved to Portland to accept a position in the United States customs office there. Surviving are his widow, Bertha L. Smith; a son, -Malcolm G. Smith of the army air forces; and a sister, Mrs. Thomas McCarthy of San Francisco. Fisher, 1130 Oak st., January 7, was recovered in Portland, Sa lem police were notified Thursday. Infant Clinic i Held at Donald An infant and school clinic at the Donald school house on Tues day, January 15, was conducted by Dr. W. J. Stone of Marion county health department and as sisted by local volunteer help, Mrs. Irma Lindquist Mrs. Paul Singer, Mrs. Ann Johnson, Mrs. James Meyers, and Mrs. Amelia Feller. Ninety-three children attended and 66 received a physical exam ination, 65 had vaccination against smallpox,, 61 were immunized against diphtheria, 20 pre-school children were immunized against whooping cough. There was an adult tuberculin testing clinic in conjunction with the school clinic. Total TB tests were 56.
