Subcommittee Okehs City Police Department's Budget

ed in getting more policing done,
increasing city revenue by $10,000
and heading off, at least for' the
present, an increase in police force
manpower.,
This was the picture given Tues
day by City Manager Kent Math
ewson to a city budget subcom
mittee that approved a $381,088
police budget as prepared by the
manager as part of the proposed
new 34,390,000 city budget.

No budget cuts were made Tues
day by committees that checked
through the police, health, parks,
recreation and library budgets.
In the police budget, over three
fourth of the total cost is in sal
ary. The aggregate salary of $296.-
330 for the coming year reflects
an increase of $4,349 as result of
city employes' pay raises given by

film was set at $1,200.
Parks Budget Increases
Recent major- increases in the
amount of usable city park land
is reflected in higher operating
costs in -the Salem parks depart
ment budget of $115,432.
Mathewson said total parks'
grass area has increased by 37
per cent, making it necessary to

mittee headed by Alderman E. O.
Bushnell and including Russell
Bonesteele, Lawrence N. Brown
and Dr. Vera W. Miller. The lat
ter two are also on Alderman
P. W. Hale's committee, with Ai-'
derman Clayton Jones. This group
was responsible for the other bud
gets approved Tuesday.
