r Play to Open Weekend Festivities ; Valentine Katayev'i satire on the Russia -of the 1830s, "Squaring the Circle." will begin the annual campus May festival Thursday. The play will be staged Thurs day and Friday nights, May 1 and 2, at 4:15 in the Fine Arts audi torium. ' Starring Judy Dalton and Rich ard Geer, Salem; Ross Stephen. Bend, and Barbara Bredsteen, San Mateo, Calif., the play tells the story . of .two young couples who share a single, crowded Moscow tenament room. The proceeds of the party to be held at the home of Mayor and Mrs.. Robert White will be added to a fund to buy "posies" for Salem's float in the annual Portland Rose Festival parade. Foster of Port land as the guest conductor of the 9th annual Choir Festival on May I Mr. Foster has a' B.A. degree from Pacific University and an ' M.S. in Music Education from the University of Idaho. He has been 1 a director of choral music at both I Roosevelt and Lincoln High 'Schools in Portland. He was in- , ' '. itructor of public school choral methods at Lewis and Clark Col lege for 4 years. He is at present assistant supervisor of music in the Portland Public Schools. He has carved as adjudicator, consultant and director of school music and choir festivals through out the state. He has also had years of -experience as a choir di rector in Methodist and Lutheran Churches. 'He is at present Min ister of Music at Portland's First Baptist Church. Mr. Foster is 'a member of Music Educators National, Oregon Music Educators, Oregon Educa tion Association and the Oregon Choral Conductors' Guild. Of interest to many Salem resi dents the fact that bis wife is a former Salem girl, a daughter of Rev. Fred C. Taylor, a former pastor of First Methodist Church. Rev. Wilkinson for several years has served the con gregation as its assistant pastor as well as youth and music director. The couple will leave next week to make permanent resilience., in Portland, where Rev. Wilkinson has accepted the directorship of the Hinson Memorial Baptist church choir activities and also to continue his studies at the Baptist Theological Seminary. Mrs. Wilkinson Is well ,known in the Salem and Stayton area. She is the former Miriam Brown, the daughter of Mrs. Golda Brown. Mrs. Wilkinson was the 1956 Leb anon Strawberry Festival queen. She also has been studying in a Portland college.
