March 20 ( Marilyn Monroe was listening to phonograph records one floor up at the time of the "wrong door" raid, her hostess that evening told newsmen today. He reported that Hale was ap parently suffering from blood poisoning, thought brought on by frozen feet , Sheriff Bud Taylor was notified and rescue party was quickly formed.- The group left Grange ville at 1:30 Tuesday morning in an attempt to reach the abandoned town, which is at 1,000 feet eleva tion in rug&ed mountain country of the Net Perce National Forest. The party had to return about IS miles on foot when its snow cat broke down above Biggins Hot Springs, where members had been trying to follow a creek bed through the seven-foot snow. The party, headed by Dr. Ralph M. Buttermore, Idaho County Coroner, and forest engineer ty grand Jury. Another witness the landlady of trje two-story apart ment house said Frank Sinatra was in a frisky mood an hour he fore the door-smashing. A private detective said he told the jury yesterday that Joe Di Maggio arranged the raid in quest of evidence against Miss Monroe, his divorced wile. The detective maintains Sinatra was one of the men whoN entered, by mistake, what proved to be the wrong apart ment. The district attorney's office saya the grand jury is investigat ing 1. whether there was felonious conspiracy to commit a misde meanor, such as trespass or ma- Bit of Battleship Oregon Given to City of Portland PORTLAND, 'March 20 W - The Battleship Oregon Museum Com mission reported today that an anonymous Japanese has contrib uted another piece of the famed ship to the city of Portland. Clyde Dickey, chairman of the commission, said the gift was the towing bitt from the warship's hull. It will be mounted on a con crete pedestal near the Oregon's mast on Harbor Drive here. The Oregon was famous lor its trip around Cape Horn in the Spanish-American War. It was berthed' in the Portland Harbor for many years and was used as a barge in World War II. At present it is being cut up for scrap in Japan. Porter Asks Protection of Union Dues WASHINGTON, March 20 W -Rep. Porter (D-Ore) today urged that union members be given "protection of dues-payers' funds from raids and exploitations."' He warned at the tame time "against drastic punitive meas ures which could undermine the basic purpose of trade unions, which is to safeguard the living standards of working men and women." Porter aaid In a statement that current hearings before a Senate committee are "a challenge to trade union officials themselves and they must respond to it." He laid it would be "unfortun ate if either political party made use of the current revelations for political purposes," inasmuch as some of the union officials 'charged with grave misdeeds have supported candidates of both parties." "Furthermore," he said, "I think ffhal public judgment must be withheld until the courts have passed on many of the charges recently voiced." Most Grains Close Higher CHICAGO. March 20 un-Grala futures finally got going on the upward path on the Board of Trade today after a long down turn. Wheat closed to l higher. corn H to 1' up, oata unchanged. to 2 cents higher, rye Vi to m higher, soybeans k to 2 cents higher,, and lard S cent J a hundred pounds higher to I cents lower. The upturn la wheat followed t slump in which prices had dropped around J to 12 cents a bushel in seven trading, sessions. Traders had felt a technical rally was due. Today was the last trading ses sion in March contracts of all grains, soybean oil and soybean meal. Exporters reported sale of 14 million bushels of U.S. wheat to Yugoslavia. March 20 W - The State Board of Higher Education today announced receipt of 1200, 000 from the Ford Foundation Fund fw-A4viKrnit-c4 Xducav tion, which will be used for an experimental project in college teaching by television.. Chancellor John R. Richards said the grant will make possible the sUrt-rf lawoomtelevision on three campuses next Septem ber. Preliminary work to set up facilities it underway at the Uni versity of Oregon. Oregon State College and Oregon College of Education. Three . undergraduate . courses and one graduate course are planned. Courses definitely scheduled are U.S. history, to be taught at the University by Wendell H. Stephen son, and chemistry, to be taught at Oregon State by W. H. Slabaugh and M. B. Williams. The other two schools will receive the programs. Wednesday with a larger snow cat. but had not reported back by Dichtfall. Meanwhile, assistant forest superintendent Ray Hilding asked that a helicopter be sent from Forest Service headquarters ' it Missoula.- Mont. The Associated Press average of AO stocks ended unchanged at $173.80 with industrials up 20 cents, rails up 10 cents and util ities down 20 cents.
