Death Ends Career of Educator (Story also oa Page 1) Funeral services for Miss Elea nor Trindle, who died here Thurs day, will be held at 3 p.m. Sat urday at the Clough-Barrick Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Brooks Moore of the First Methodist Church will officiate and interment will be at the City View Cemetery. Well-known in this area as a teacher and home economist. Miss Trindle was a member of the Oregon State College facul ty. She had been ill for the put six months. ' A graduate of Salem high school, Miss Trindle also attend ed Willamette University and was graduated from Oregon SUte College. In 1955 she received her master's degree in education from the Teachers College at Co lumbia University. She was a member of the PEO Sisterhood. Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Willisra Trindle, 1965 S. Commercial; one brother, Wil liam Trindle, Jr. of North Pow der; one sister, Mrs. Helen Rein er of Portland; three aunts, Mrs. Leone Gookins and Mrs. Mildred Kittilson, both of Salem; and Mrs. Ethel Rucker of San Fran cisco, and flye nephews. Youths Admit Bad Checks Two 16-year-old youths were re leased in the custody of their par ents Thursday after the boys ad mitted passing bad checks in Sa lem, according to tne Marion County Juvenile Department. One bor admitted cashing a bad check for $20 in September and the second confessed to passing a check for $14, The youths were ar rested by the Marion County Sher iff's office Thursday morning. It lasted only three days. Now it is up to Public Utilities Commissioner Charles H. Helt sel to decide wheather to grant all or part of the $3,200,000 an nual increase asked by the com pany. Cross examination of eompany witnesses continued Thursday, followed by an accounting report prepared bjTJL. G. Hieber, Helt- tel's chief accountant 40 Cents Maximum Company witnesses testified that under the proposal, S per cent of the customers would get monthly increases of 30 cents s month or less. No residence would be Increased more than 40 cents. - "Seven per cent of the custom ers, stl business lirms, wouia get increases of $2 a month or more. R. W. Mason, San Francisco, assistant vice president of the company, testified that the com pany needs an increase to in crease the market position of its securities. This position, he said, has been weakened in the past few years by smaller earnings. Greater Risks He also said that Telephone Companies, having greater risks, are entitled to nigner percent ages of profit than electric com panies. During a depression, he continued telephone ' revenues decline more rapidly than tnose of other utilities. "A higher rste of return," Ma- County Board Hears Report On Diseases 'Births, deaths and comunlcable disease 'showed no unusual trend during November, a report to the Marion County Board of Health revealed Thursday. Board members reviewed Nov ember statistics at their regular monthly meeting. Approximately 60 per cent of county school children have been immunized for polio and a some what higher percentage for dip theria and tetanus, a survey of school records disclosed. Mrs. Bernlce Yeary, director of the nurses department, presented the survey of this fall's first grade students and freshmen entering high school. Sanitarian I. G. Lermon was ap pointed as authorized purchasing agent of war surplus goods for the county department. The board also acknowledged the service of workers In presenting the department's open house last month. Pub lic Utilities Commissioner Charles H. Heltzel said. A similar increase for Inter state shipments was granted Thursday by the Interstate Com merce Commission, effective Dec. 27. . x , The Interstate Increase was to have been effective Dec. 37, but the suspension order revents them from going into effect at that time.
