Oct. 10 iJfi-An AnifT Iran cancer specialist has (its closed that some volunteers at the S!oan-Ketterin( Institute in New York were Injected with cancer and managed to throw off the dis ease. Dr. Cornelius P. Rhoads, scien tide director of the institute, made thr disclosure in a lecture before thf British Imperial Cancer Re search Fund Tuesday. Hp sajd experiments indicated there is a dek-nse mechanism in man against cancerous cells hut that it is greatly reduced in pa dents already suffering from can cer He said this was shown by vol unteers already suffering from rancer who silbmitted to fresh cancerous injections, The injec tions caught hold. Khoads said the experiments showed promise for an attack on cancer cells by chemistry which even today furnishes what he said was still a feeble and inadequate means of restraining widespread cancer in man. The growth of cancer cells or iginally human. Injected into chickens, hamsters and rats, then reinjected into human volunteers Dr. Rhoads said, "adds some thing to our ability to conceive of cancer as a disease due to invad ing cells, analagous to tubercle bacilli." Flag Stirs Controversy BOAZ, Wis., Oct. 10 Will the flag of the United Nations fly over this southwestern Wisconsin vil lage on U.N. Day. Oct. H? 1 That is the nub of a controversy in which the central figures are the village president, Frank Har ris, an outspoken critic of the I'nited Nations, and Glenn Turner, onetime Socialist and an exponent of Ksperanto, world universal lan guage. Harris, who heads the village government in this town of 188 persons, recently received a sug gestion from the University of Wis consin, that the village in common with other cities and towns in the state observe United Nations Day by flying the U.N. flag. He announced publicly that he rejected the proposal. Instead. Harris said, the village would officially fly the American flag on Constitution Day, Oct. 23, and would fly it again on Oct. 24, I N. day-at half-stall-"As a challenge to theone-worlders." "Conspiracy" "I think the United Nations is a conspiracy of International cut throats dedicated to the destruc tion of our liberties and human rights," Harris said. "I refuse to fly the United Nations flag, and I have a lot of support in that, too " Turner, 67, who lives in Middle Ion, several counties to the east of Roaz and close to the state capital at Madison, took immedi ate and vigorous exception to Har ris' announcement. Public Challenge Turner said Harris was entitled to his own opinion about the U.N. but added that the village presi dent had "made a public chal lenge that no one is going to do in your village Boa a perfectly lawful act the raising of the flag of the U.N. to express an opinion opposite from yours." Turner said he regarded Harris' act as "not only an attack on the U.N. but also on the American principle of free speech itself." Furthermore, Turner continued, he planned to go to Boaz, person ally, on U.N. Day to see to it that the United Nations flag was flown on that occasion.
