A - A mil lion dollar daniase suit was filed Wednesday by Morrison - Knud frn Co. against the Teamsters snd Operating Kngineers, two of Ihree unions on strike since April .-J asainst contractors at the Han ford Atomic Works. The bis construction company " contended in its suit, tiled in l;. S. i District Court in Yakima, the two i unions broke a no-strike agree ment in staging the prolonged ''walkout ,;' The strike, which has idled 1,300 construction workers and halted expansion projects at -the atomic . plant, was called in a dispute over -: trav el allow ances. It has not af fected pliitonium production. Morrison - Knudsen asked $f,.lS. ,wn general damages and Si.l.onn . dailey for the duration of the strike. As nf Wednesday, this would total $1,14.1,000. The suit came on trip heels of .settlements by the three striking unions with two small contractors at the atomic works. However, Sam Guess, secretary of the Associated General Con tractors in Spokane, said the agreements did not signify a break in the strike because only fivt construction workers were involved. In the Morrison Knudsen suit, -atlornrys for the company -said the unions earlier signed a ron ., tract with the AGC prohibiting special agreements for Hanford i construction work. Morrison , Knudsen is a member of the con- tractors' association. " Recausp th union failed to i. make full use of grievance nia chinery before the walkout, the attorneys contend, the unions vio t lated a no-strike clause in the agreement signed with AGC. ,j Vnion reptesentalives said the 1 arra contract with AGC doesn't apply to the Hanford plant. 1 v n .lahansnn.
