" 8 1 1 In July, By JOHN M. BICHTOWER WASHINGTON iri Indian Prime Minister Nehru plans to visit Pres ident Eisenhower here in July, it was announced Tuesday. The two leaders are expected to debate a wide range of world issues from United Nations membership for Red China to U. S. foreign aid. Diplomatic officials said the United States hopes to five Nehru a better understanding of its poli cies, and to impress him with this country's peaceful aims, during the four or five day meeting. This apparently is one of the major reasons why American of ficials were anxious to arrange a meeting between the Indian Prime Minister and the President. They felt Nehru would take home a conviction of evident sincerity on the part of the president when he talks about the importance of obtaining world peace. They hoped this would make a strong impres sion on Nebru. Discussed by Dulles Secretary of State Dulles dis Tunisia Inks Independence Agreement 7r-.7r PARIS (jv- France and Tunisia Tuesday signed a new agreement which recognises the former French protectorate'! independ ence and opens the way for talks which will keep it closely allied to France. The proclamation of independ ence, which must be approved by the French parliament, was signed by Tunisian Premier Tahar Ben Ammar and French foreign minis ter Christian Pineau in the gilded clock salon of the French foreign ministry. It ended six years of intermit tent talks, which several times broke down in bloodshed. It left long and still difficult negotiations ahead before Frenchmen and Tu nisians can define just what the re lationship of their two countries is to be. Both sides were eager to see the agreement quickly signed. Oyster Bed Protection Promised PORTLAND I .The Oregon Fish Commission assured an oyster grower Tuesday that the Yaquina Bay oyster beds will be protected when the Georgia Pacific Plywood Co. builds its proposed million dollar plant near Toledo. That Nehru rejects such alli ances was emphasized again to day when, in a report to the In dian parliament on his talks witii western foreizn ministers, he de nounced the Middle Eastern Bagh dad pact, which the United States Just a few hours after the White House announced that. Nehru has accepted Eisenhower's invitation to visit Washington next July. Asked why he feels the Presi dent should go 10 India, oranam replied: "The people of India respond love, warmness and affection more than any people in the world. The President has that love., "Any of the problems we have in the world today, people do not associate with President Eisen hower." Warmth by Nlioa Graham said some members of congress and other American of ficials have climed into "their Cadillacs" and driven away to hotels, upon arrival in India, with out a display of friendliness. He added, however, that Vice Presi dent Nixon displayed a great deal of warmness when he arrived on his visit. Graham said Communist Party Boss Nikita Khrushchev used the "Indian sign of welcome" in India and went around kissing babies "all over the place and hugging the women." Graham said this made a great Impression. Oregon Farmers Plan to Plant More Acreages PORTLAND ( - Oregon farmers intend to plant more acreages this year, the federal Department o f Agriculture re ported Tuesday. The biggest increase will be In spring wheat, followed by oats and barley. - Sugar beet acreage also will be up, but , field corn will be about the same and potato acre age will be smaller. The agency noted that some of the spring seeding increase is really only a re-seeding of fall crops which froze in the severe winter in Western Oregon. Us. India has been more out spoken than Britain in saying the United States also should recog nize it and accept Chinese commu-nlst-UJi. membership. The way in which this aid may be geared to his own five-year development plan is apparently subject of considerable importance to Nehru. He said he believed any "Intel ligent citizen" at Shippingport, which is near Pittsburgh, could ob tain a court injunction to "prevent tne construction of what might (be a public hazard."
