Banking Firm Opens Posts For 11 Youths EUGENE Good positions in the banking profession are assured el even young men now attending the University of Oregon.". - These yonng men. here - under the six-year-old United States Na tional Bank work-college program.; Will have been out of high school only about six years when they step into positions in banking. Their qualifications will then amount to a college degree and three-years of banking experience. Operation of the work-college plan is' this; An Oregon branch bank or the head office of the United States National Bank in terviews an outstanding senior in one of its area high schools and gives him a job. He works part time the last three months of his senior year. The bank, after he graduates, notifies him of his selec tion for the program and he is then placed in a position with a re gular monthly salary. He works in the bank for 15 months, saving a compulsory $100 from each' pay check for college expenses. The next September he enters an Oregon college or university of his choice. (This fall 11 students chose the University of Oregon, four went to Oregon State college, and one each to Lmfield and Portland State.) Tuition at; the. two larger state schools is paid by the bank. The student's $1500 in savings cover room, board, and expenses. He completes fall, winter, spring, and summer terms in school and then returns to- the bank to .work a full year, saving $120 each month. From there he alternates a year at the bank, and a year at college until ready to graduate in some field of business or eco nomics. Assuming that there are.no in terruptions and with approximately six years behind him since high school, he receives a diploma and joins the U. S. National staff with a guaranteed starting salary of $4,000 and a Career ahead of him in banking.; from San Francisco to outline the Poultry and Egg National Board turkey program for the west coast Schwartz has assisted a number of times in Oregon in the Eat More Turkey campaigns, while working with the surplus commo dity division with USDA. He- is, Bennion says, . well acquainted with the turkey situation in Ore gon. . Market Outlook W. T. Geurtz, manager of the Oregon Turkey Growers, will re view the turkey market outlook. and Bennion will give the re sults of a recent survey on. pro duction and prices as well as touch upon some trends in the turkey industry, i Concluding program number will be a panel discussion on demand. supply and prices, with Carlos Johnson, president of the Oregon Turkey Growers as panel lead ers.
