Clark. 63. a leading research -ex pert in the telephone industry, died Monday in Presbyterian Medical Center following a stroke two weeks ago. Clark retired last February as a vice president of the Bell Tele phone Laboratories and had since been directing a research project for the . Department of Defense. His borne was in Washington. During his 43-year career in the communications field, Clark received 44 patents for telephone devices and played a major role in a number of developments. He led the planning and en gineering of the transcontinental coaxial cable and microwave ra dio relay systems for telephone and television transmission, and more recently directed develop ment d engineering of the na tionwide direct distance dialing system already in operation in some communities. - . , Corn Prices Take Tumble CHICAGO (J? II) 9 Stock Market Nears Record NEW YORK W The stock market drove ahead in one of the strongest advances of the vear Monday and neared a new record high mark. Blue chip stocks were in the forefront of the rise with gains that frequently amounted to 1 to 5 points and sometimes pushed on out to around I points. - The Associated Press average of 60 stocks advanced $2.60, the third largest gain of the year, And closed- at $179.90.
