Washington
Pension Union
Probe to Open
SEATTLE Of) The Washington
Pension Union will undergo public
scrutiny her Monday for the fifth
time as the Subversive Activities
Control Board opens a bearing into
its activities.
Former U.S. Sen. Harry P. Cain
will sit as a one-man panel for
the board to weigh charges that
the Pension Union is a Communist
front ; organization. Cain is chair
man of Ore board.
Numerous witnesses labeled the
Pension Union as a Communist
directed organization at the Legis
lative Un-American Activities In
vestigating Committee hearing in
1943, at the Smith Act trial of
state i Communist leaders in 1953
and at hearings of the House Un
American Activities Committee in
1954 and again - last March.
Many of the same witnesses will
be called to repeat their testimony
before Cain. They include acknowl
edged former Communists and for-
mar Pension Union members.
