Henry Ernest Cromwell. 29, Grants Pass, was fined $200 after being convicted. of driving while intoxicated. A com panion at the time. Boyes, state po liceman and assistant in the Oregon crime Laboratory, was appointed - Tuesday as acting director of the lab. Sgt. Boyes to Direct State Lab. Time Sgt Manuel J.' Boyes has been named acting director of the Crime Detection Laboratory -to succeed Dr. Homer - H. Harris, who resigned to . enter private practice, it was announced joint ly Tuesday by the superintend ent of the Oregon State Police and the dean of the' University of Medical School, where the laboratory is located. ' v Sgt. Boyes entered state police service in 1949 and has been op erating in the field until his re cent assignment to the labora tory as ar assistant to the direc tor. Born in Colorado but brought up in Oregon, he attend ed public schools in Tillamook and after serving five years in the armed forces during World War II entered Lewis and Clark College in Portland. Mrs. Stanley- Zeeb, who states she has already paid $160 on con tract for the diamond ring, alleged the store and Flak acted fraudu lently in representing that the ring had a market value of $550, when its true value was not more than $150. House Damage To Be Paid by Boys' Parents ' Parents of two pre-school aged boys have agreed to make resti tution to owners of a house the boys vandalized to the tune of sev eral hundred dollars on Hollywood Avenue, Marion County sheriffs office reported Tuesday. The house, located at. 3540 Holly wood, Ave., was entered by the boys sometime between Aug. 17 and 2L With an axe as a weapon, the boys chopped 26 large holes in its rooms, left numerous axe marks on walls and also damaged tile and floors in the kitchen and bathroom, sheriffs deputies said.. The house, which is for sale, was unoccupied. The boys gained entry through an . unlocked door. Retiring Colonel To Live in Salem JT. MASON, CALIF. Lt. Col. Clarence W. Hodges retires ' from the Army at San Francisco Port of Embarkation today and moves to Salem, Ore., to make, his home. Col. Hodges was stationed in Salem on National Guard instruc tor duty prior to World Warr II.
