ANGEL Silver and dia mond jubilees of ten Benedictine Sisters at Convent Queen of Angels, ML Angel, were celebrated at ceremonies here Sunday. Completing 60 years in religious life were Sister M. Beatrice, Sister M. Clementine, Sister M. Gabriel, Sister M. Genevieve, Sister M. Ro man and Sister M. Raphael. The hot lunch pro gram will begin on the following Monday. Teachers will assemble at 8 b.bl on Sept 6 to make prepara tions for the start of school. New teachers wil1 be Mrs, Marguerite Burton, third-fourth grade instructor; and Miss Grace Klampe, fifth-sixth grade. She was also in charge of the Convent choir and school dramatics. She is a sister of the late Abbot Placidus Fuerst of Mt Angel Abbey, well known . com poser and musician. Still active, Sister spends much of her time in making church vestments and altar supplies. Sister Clementine, procurator at the local convent, spent 33 years of her religius life as local superior and more years as music teacher at different branch houses con ducted by the Benedictine Sisters. Sister Gabriel spent her 60 years at the mother-bouse, where she was head laundress and vestiarian for many years. Farmer Librariai Sister Genevieve, convent li brarian until one year ago, is known to high school students as former high school study prefect at the Academy. She also taught and acted as local superior in the branch schools. At present she is confined fo the infirmary. Sister Romana for several years in charge of the seminarian's re fectory at ML Angel Seminary, is remembered by many priests in and out of the diocese to whose needs she ministered during their student days. She is also confined to the convent infirmary. Sister Raphael was employed for many years at the Benedictine Fathers' printing press in the early 1900's and later in the Abbey kitchen. Still active at the Mt Angel convent. Sr. Paphael par ticipates in various domestic ac tivities, and especially in the Per petual Adoration, as do her co jubiliarians. Four Silver Jabllarians The silver jubilarians include Sister M. Beniga, Sister Theresa Marie, Sister M. Theophane, and Sister M. Winifred: all have been employed in teaching and other activities during their 25 years of devoted service. Sister Beniga's special field has been commercial subjects; Sister Theresa Marie's art and primary; and Sister Tbeophane's music, in cluding the position of organist at the convent. Sister Winifred taught high school classes, but is at present engaged in making coifs for the Sisters. The day of jubilee began with a high mass said by Rev. Sebas tian Terhaar, convent chaplain. Before the mass each of the dia mond jubilarians renewed her vows, and received again the golden ring as a pledge of fi delity, after which the Sisters re ceived a crown of white roses, surmounted by a cross, which they wore the entire day. HURRY! v raiSM urn North Howell Qub Outlines Plans for Fair lUUimu Ncwi Serrlte NORTH HOWELL Despite the busy harvest season, - vacation trips, and wort in the berry fields. 12 members answered roll-call at the meeting of the North Howell Home Economics Club Wednesday Plans were briefly outlined for the annual grange fair and snack bar sponsored by this group to be held late in October. Mrs. Leo Peterson, chairman, ap pointed Mrs. Amy Beer and Mrs L. R. Sawyer on the kitchen com mittee and Mrs. Jim Jackson as chairman of the flower show, al ways an important part of the fair. Other committees will be named later. It was decided to purchase barn- boo curtains for the hall windows and Mrs. Jackson. Mrs. Peterson and Mrs. William Cox will com plete this project as soon as pos sible. To arrange a booth at the North Marion County Fair are Andrew Hall and Roy Dunn, assisted by every one able to participate. Hostesses were Mrs. K. D. Coom ler and Mrs. A. B. Wiesner. The Sept. 20 meeting will be a Do-bost sack lunch occasion. Wood bur William F. Zyp, formerly of Salem, will join the staff at MacLaren 'School for Boys September 1. Zyp has been in school business in Montana and Oregon for a number of years and during .the past year was con nected with a real estate firm in Salem. A. Buehanan, is in charge of enrollment The school 'will be located in Lincoln School as in previous years and will operate in both a fall and spring three-month session from Tuesday through Friday each week. Last year the morning and afternoon periods each had an enrollment of about 30. The same plan is expected to be used this year, said Mrs. Schwenke, with more students welcomed. Members of Jaycee-ettes are aiding the school this year. Mrs. Schwenke, whose phone number is 2-6741, and Mrs. Buchanan, reached at 2-5946, are answering inquiries of prospective teachers and pupils. Gerald Papen received the hab it of a novice Aug. 15, in the congregation of Holy Cross at Sacred Heart Novitate in Jor dan, Minn. Gerald graduated from Sheridan High School in 1954, and attended Notre Dame the past year. After a year as a novice, he will continue studying at Notre Dame. On Aug. 16, Richard Papen pronounced his final vows in Holy Cross at the Holy Cross summer house, Deer Park, Md.
