Tomorrow's Sunday Aetr of Special Church Activities in Salem and the Valley Noted Pastor To Speak at Salem Church I One of the most "popular preachers in America will be guest speaker at morning and evening services the next two Sundays at the Calvary Baptist Church. - j Dr. J. Whitcomb Brougher $r., though long past the. usual ire- tiring age, is still in demand for his platform and pulpit ministry. He has been castor of some of the largest Baotist churches; in America-, serving churches t in Boston, Portland, Los Angeles and Oakland. He has served as president of the American Baptist Convention and held many responsible posi tions i of -national leadership among Baptists. He is well known as a humorist whose messaees are full of life. He is often called the "Mill Rogers of the pulpit," a title which is particular apt be cause he and the famous humorist were close -friends. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Thiesen, 645 Waldo Ave. Thiesen, the only delegate from Salem, will be among 22 youths from the church's Pacific Synod. Another valley delegate will be Christi Horn of McMinnville. After 'the convention closes Aug. 20, Thiesen will visit rela tives at Omaha and Fremont, Neb., before returning to Salem. M. ; GetJhard, I pas tor of Christ Lutheran, is a newly elected member of the statefwide Foundation which i is responsible for the total campus ministry. The Rev. Kenneth Larson, who has recently moved from Chicago to CorvaUis is the new director of the Foundation. where he served as pastor from 1938 to 1944. i ; j ij His family will not accompany him. .He will make the .trip by plane and expects to return to Silverton I by the end of the month. I Bible School Registration Starts Today Registration for Daily Vacation Bible School at Englewood Evan gelical United Brethren Church is scheduled this morning between 9:30 and 10:30. First classes are planned Monday morning at 9:30. All children from four years of age through the sixth grade are in vited to attend the I Bible school. which will continue for one week. On Friday evening parents are in vited to an informal gathering to review the children's accomplish ments of the week. The theme of the week is "Children Marching for Jesus." There is a registration fee cf 50 cents for each child. Though the story hour, worship time, song period, and recreation will be featured, the high point of the school this year will be the handcraft period. Among the many activties, one group will be design ing, painting and framing its own metal religious pictures. - Two Silverton ! Delegates to Youth Camp StatefButa Newt Service SILVERTON Attending the senior Bible Camp at the Ameri can Lutheran Conference of Churches of the Portland area, will be Carole Byberg and Carol Gillis of Silverton. The camp, to be held at Camp Colton ,will start Aug. 21. Miss Mary Beth Van Cleave, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. R. J. VanCleave and a stu dent at Willamette University 'will be one of the counselors at the camp. Missionary Program S.et The Rev. and Mrs. Fred Moore of Portland will present a mis sionary program Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church. The missionary presentation will 'consist of the showing of slides, curios, the playing of a tape recording from the mission field, and also a missionary chal lenge. The Rev. and Mrs. Moore re cently have been appointed as missionaries to Japan, and will be working with the Japan Gos pel Fellowship.
