D'And owner and ator of thei comedy which? made its bow June 25, is making no secret of the fact that he has become high ly displeased with March since hand-picking him for the show early this year. Assured of a berth on NBC for a show of his own, D'Andrea gave up his role on the "Life of Riley" in order to devote all his time to 'The Soldiers." Appar ently he feels that March double crossed him after signing to be 'his GI sidekick on Saturday nights. Instead of keeping him self exclusive for "The Soldiers, Hal went to New York to play Imogene Coca's husband on her TV show and when that part played out he became emcee of the new quiz show, "$64,000 Question." 1 gave up S40.000 i year on the Bendix show in order to do The Soldiers' exclusive ly,' D'Andrea is moaning, "and to March it's a part-time job." The fact that March has to emcee "$64,000 Question" from New York is another thorn in D'Andrea's side. As The Sol diers" originates in Hollywood, it is impossible to film it, as D'Andrea had planned. March's communing between New York and ' Hollywood makes it necessary to do the show live, and without too much rehear sal, due to March's coast-to-coast schedule. 1 KPTV I Secret Storm (First Love Sweeney Wld Mod. Showtime on i'Showtim on SiShowtun on SlShowtim en i KLOR Horn Town Th. - I To D'Andrea's further chagrin, some of the publicity that has gone out on the show has given Hal March top billing. D'Andrea is known to have taken this issue up in person with Pat Weaver, president of NBC, pointing out to him that first-mention of March puts NBC in the position of plugging another network in directly. "$64,000 Question," with which March is becoming identi fied as popularity of the quiz show grows, is a CBS program. The Soldiers" developed into a weekly series from a short skit D'Andrea first did on Eddie Can tor's program several seasons ago and which he has since repeated with various co-stars on other network guest shots. He only re cently settled on March as i 'permanent" partner. It's my show and I can east it any way I want," he says la replying to questions .about March's future in uniform, which leaves little doubt that Hal's days on The Soldiers" are numbered unless he can convince D'Andrea that his ap pearance on a weekly CBS show is to Tom's best interest. But can he? That's the S64 000 question. CRITICS CORNER: TV is be ginning to resemble a huge elec tronic grab bag these days. A viewer can reach in blindfolded and with a flick of the dial find a favorite star turning up on a summer program in a different role. This new function of the na tion's favorke plaything occurred to me the other night when I tuned in BUI Cullen's "Place the Face" and saw Jeff Donnell, of the George Gobel show, put in a sure-footed appearance as a con testant, along with her husband, Aido Ray. Face" is the same old guess ing game in which celebrities try to identify people they have for gotten, and Cullen is the same old cheerful and boyish emcee. Now and then, however, this tired formula results in some thing worth watching and in our opinion breezy Bill is always worth listening to. The situation ia which Aldo Ray found himself, at any rate, gave Cullen a wealth of ma terial to gag with and left Jeff Donnell plenty of opportunity to exercise her Alice Gobel squeal. The face Ray had to guess was that of his wife's fa ther, Harold E. Donnell of Bal timore. Ray and Miss Donnell' were married in San Francisco only last September and he had never met Mr. Donnell. He couldn't guess who the man in the picture was, either, although most of his tries were howlers. "I think you're, a bookie," Aldo decided at one point. "I once bet so much with a bookie and won that he ran out without paying me. Is that who you are?"
