This works wonders on a long vaca tion drive. The trip will "go fast er for all of you. Children get restless, penned up in a car for hours on end. They can dissi pate their pent-up energy playing games. Try these: 1. License Plates: Players take turns naming the state of origin of the cars approaching your car from the opposite direction. The one who first identifies 25 differ ent state plates wins. 2. Graveyards: Decide on some object to count horses, pigs, cws, etc. Allot to one player or. team one side of the road; allot the other side to the other player or team. If, for instance, cows are the subject under investiga tion, each player calls out the number of cows he sees on his side of the road. When a grave yard is passed, all the cows count ed on that side are killed, and that player has to start all over again. The count continues to a specific destination. 3. Car Guessing: This has been a great favorite with kids for years. There are many variations of it: guessing the make of the next approaching car, guessing its color, guessing its body type, guessing whether the next car will have white-walled tires, etc 4. What's ahead? This game has infinite variations, and will provide the youngsters with plen ty of excitement The idea is to guess in advance the color of the house around the next curve, how far it is to the next side road, the number of windows on the front side of the next house, etc. In this game, mom should act as scorekeeper and arbitrator, and each of the kids should make up the next guess in turn. I. Song games. There are a number of games that can be played with popular tunes to keep youngsters self-entertained. One is to have one kid hum a tune, and the others guess its name. Each child takes his turn at being the "orchestra." Another enter taining game is just the reverse of this. Each child takes his turn at being the "orchestra."
