Present were Karl Wipper, president; Florence Jarman. secretary: George Cad mus, Sam Drager, Carl Booth, Arthur Gath, Claude Steusloff, Louis Hennies, Henry Ahrens and Anthol Riney, 4-H Club chairman. It was decided to let the Turner O.E.S. AREME Gub be responsi ble for serving refreshments. State dog trials will again be held, and there will be a flower show under the auspices of the Turner Better Homes and Gardens Club. 17-19. Mrs. E. C. Boyd and Miss Frances Weaver were elected as alternates and Mrs. Leffler was recommended for district deputy president. Sixteen guests from Woodburn - attended the recent meeting of the lodge. An '"apron walk" netted $17 for the group. Zeaa Miss Darla Shepard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Shepard, has been confined to bed for several weeks with rheumatic fever. Her parents report that she will not be able to return to school this year. She will be tutored by a Dilblic school teacher. A committee, to procure more land for school purposes in case the state department decides against the present building, was named to include Conrad Gunder- son, K. O. Coomler and Carl Ditchen. .Another general discussion meet ing will be held on Monday night. May 2, when the budget is to be voted upon and more information concerning the school building of fered. Survivor of McKinley Climb Tragedy Visits at Silverton fUttimaa. Newt Serrica SILVERTON: George Argus, enroute from New York to Fair banks, Alaska, visited Mrs. Elton Thayer here this week. It was the first time they had seen each other since the four-man party of which Argus was a member, began the climb of Mt. McKinley. April 16, 1954, in which Elton Thayer lost his life. Having successfully ascended by way of the South Buttress Route, a previously unclimbed course, the pany suffered serious accident on the descent. Thayer was killed instantly in a fall on a steep slope and Argus received a dislocated knee and hipynjury. Morton Wood and Les Vierreck, others on the climb, were able to move Argus to the 13 orvtw wi where they left him in a tent while Money is the name of a town in Mississippi Vacation Bible School Dates Set By Heights Church SUtesmaa Newt Service SALEM HEIGHTS The staff of the daily vacation Bible school sponsored by the Salem Heights Baptist Church met at the home of Mrs. Milton Burger and dates set for the school from June 6;17. Mrs. Burger will be the director of the school; Mrs. Ferd Zurcher, co-director; Mrs. Charles Stewart, secretary and pianist. Committee chairmen include Mrs. Jack Troxell, Mrs. L. A. Clinker, Mrs. Charles Davison, Mrs. Raymond Howser and the Rev. Elmer Hiebert. Angel Represented At Teachers Meeting Statesman Newt Service MT. ANGEL Eight students represented ML Angel Women's College at the spring Future Teachers of Oregon meeting at Corvallis. They included Frances Dieker, Pat Anderson and Barbara O Halloran, Mt Angel; Donna Lor enzen. Dona Knauf and Kathy Brandt, Silverton; Mary Edgell, Woodburn; and Anna Mae Loftis, Oakndge. returning down the mountain for help. .International attention was focused on the rescue, which oc curred seven days later. For eight months of the past year, Argus has been hospitalized but is now able to get around. He plana to accompany two mountain climbing parties this summer, not as climber 'but as an advisor and to study geology while staying at the base camp. While at Silverton, Mrs. Thayer and Argus catalogued the slides they took on the climb. Since last September, Mrs. Thayer has been living with her brother, the Rev. Joseph A. Luthro and family at Silverton. About half the cancer deaths in the United States are among people under 63 years old. This money will be used to com plete payments on a new electric stove, silverware, and kitchen floor covering. Twenty four members find guests were present, with Mrs. A. T. dine and Mrs. Edith Wilson serving the dessert luncheon. Visitors were Mrs. Henry John son, Mrs. L. . Jahn, Mrs. Robert Johnson, Mrs. M. O. Nichols, Mrs. Daryl Johnson and Nancy Dunn. Grange members will attend church on April 24 at the North Howell Church, followed by a joint no-host dinner at the hall.
