The group voted to sponsor a 4-H scholarship, to contribute to the Azalea House fund and to study India as an ACWW proj ect - --- Mrs. R. H. Biggest Class Will Graduate At Central HS Statesman News Service INDEPENDENCE Seventy five students, the biggest graduat ing class in the five-year history f Central High School, will re-i ceive diplomas at commencement exercises for the class of 1953,! Principal Howard B. Holt reported Friday. f I There were 75 graduates last ' spring, Holt said. . Sen. Mark Hatfield of Salem will ! deliver the commencement ad dress at 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, at the high school gymnasium. Ray Lewis and Jim Fratzke, valedictory ian and salutatorian respectively, also will speak. Ranking third scholastically in the graduating class is another ; boy. Richard Loy. Others in the top 10 students, the school reported are Anita New- land, Joann Mueller, Ralph Rey nolds, Elsie Peterson, Leslie Pet erson, Maureen Gibbons and Donna Fisher. The valedictorian is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Lewis, Mon mouth. For the first seven sem esters of high school, he main tained a grade average of 1.07 which, is-.07 short of perfect grades. -He plans to major in sci ence at college. Salutatorian Fratzke is the con of Dr. and Mrs. C. A. Fratske, In dependence. .His grade average was 1.14. He plans to become a dentist. Baccalaureate services will be held Sunday, May 29, at the high school gymnasium under direc tion, of the Monmouth-Independence Ministerial Association. The Rev." William F. Rademacher of Monmouth Evangelical United Brethren Church will speak. Easter Egg Hunt Set at Dallas Today Statesman News Service . DALLAS 'To the delight of Dallas youngsters, 2.400 hard boiled Easter eggs will be await ing discovery Saturday on the i courthouse lawn and the city park. , Pre-school children through the sixth grade are invited to partic ipate, according to Don .Wernli, chairman. First grade and younger children will conduct their search at 10:15 a.m. on courthouse square. The square's" southwest quarter is reserved for little tots through the age of three years. Four and five year olds should gather at the southeast corner while six and seven year olds have been delegat ed the north half of the square. Second through sixth graders will assemble at 10 a.m. at Wash ington and Main Streets and par ade to the city park for their hunt. A large number of the eggs will be marked for prizes which will be awarded on the Court Street side of courthouse square. Con eluding the event will be a free animated caroon show at the Ma jectic Theater. If ram should cancel the hunt, the show would start at 10:30 a.m with eggs distributed as the chil dren leave the theater. Dallas mer chants and wives took on the task of boiling the eggs and the dyeing was supervised by Mrs. Malno Reichert, home extension agent. Lewis WILLAMINA Last rites for Alfred John Lewis, 73, Willami na. were held at St Michael s Catholic Church in Grand Ronde, Alf Nelson, members voted to have PTA convention each year. -Provision was made to pay the ex penses of, four delegates to the late April conclave in Portland. The president reported on the budset meeting of the school board with the citizens committee and urged' that all members vote for budset acceptance, at the May 6 election. Lewis died at his home this week. Lewis was born Dec. 13, 1881, in California. He married Lydia A. Farley in Redding, Calif., on May 3, 1903 and the family moved to Hoquiam. Wash., in 1914 where they lived until com ing to Willamina in 1947. He is survived by his wife Lydia of Willamina; two sons, Lloyd A. of Willamina and Al fred J., Jr., of Bakersfield, Calif.; a daughter, Hildred White, Wil lamina; three brothers, W. A. of Redding, Calif.. Harry of Stock- tori, Calif., anil Homer of Gait, Calif.; also eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, the executive board consider the question of contributing to the fund. Mr. and Mrs. A. E. LaBranch, who built the house at 125 S. Lancaster Drive 28 years ago and have resided there to the present, have sold the residence to Mr. and Mrs. Clare Ridgeway, Salem. Ridgeway will move the build ing to Mahrt Avenue, just off South Lancaster Drive.
