WILLAMINA Ruth Duggan of
McMinnville, formerly of Willa
mina, is one of 14 high school stu-
dents who received top honors in
the IOOF and Rebekah Lodge sixth
annual United Nations Pilgrimage
for Youth.. She will make a tour
of the United Nations this summer.
Ruth is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. M. E. Duggan of McMinn
ville. Mrs. Duggan is a teacher
at the Willamina elementary
school. ' i
Miss Duggan won the McMinn
ville High School contest on her
essay entitled "What the United
Nations Means to Me." Other fac
tors considered were character.
leadership, contribution to her
community, welfare, scholarship,
interest in church or Sunday
School activities, and general fit
ness for and cooperation with the
entire' project. . :
Miss Duggan will leave about
July 5. and go through Washington
and British Columbia, to pick up
winning students in that area. The
group will then go across Canada
to Ottawa,, where! they will visit
parliament, and then on to New
York. They will return about Aug
ust 3.

Cancer; Society, was a recent vis
itor in' Silverton to supervise ar
rangements for the drive. The
aid of all civic and fraternal or
ganizations, as well as citizens,
is being solicited.

Plan Paper .Drive

MT. ANGEL The Boy Scouts
will conduct a paper drive Satur
day starting at 10 a. m., the trucks
leaving from Schmit's feed tore.
The trucks will take the scouts
on a canvass of the city to pick
up the papers. People are asked
to have the bundles of paper
placed where they may be readily
be seen from the street No maga
zines are wanted.
i People from rural districts are
asked to bring papers to Schmitt's
store. '
At the last meeting of the Scout
committee, it was decided to have
the Mt. Angel troop participate in
the Scout Circus at Waters Field,
Salem, on May 21.
