Fancy-Back Sports Coats Due to Return Men's wear authorities predict that the fancy-back sport coat will be revived. The present trend to narrow, sleek trousers focuses attention on the coat, and they believe more style interest Is needed in the coat back. Some designers favor expansion pleats back of the shoulders with full er "skirts" and a center vent opening to the waist. J .New Foundation Garments Favor Eased Waist and Flat Hip for That 'Gentle Look' The alliance of foundation gar ments with ready-to-wear has never been so apparent as in the lines for spring. s There are brassieres and gir dles to shape the "gentle look" with its high, round bust, eased waist and flat hip. There are pther foundations to pull in the waist, giving, the bosom accent nd letting th'e hips curve. The foundation now conforms precise ly to the preferred silhouette. Since necklines are wide and shallow, rather than deep this season, many brassieres have off-the-shoulder or wide-set straps. Brassieres with straps often have wiring under the cups or crossed bands to raise and round the bosom. The strapless bra, too, is im portant Some styles offer cups pre-shaped by foam rubber lining or non-woven interfacing for firm uplift. Vibrant Colors Textured beads of glass and tile are spring headliners, re ports the Jewelry Industry Coun cil. Necklaces feature large blue beads robin's egg size speckled with white. Others use tiny purple and pink glass beads, flecked with silver or gold. Beads are puckered, popcorn like, hollow, lacy or cylindrical. They are mock seetf pearls, very delicate, and pale glazed beads, irregularly sized. Naturally, with so much bead news, there is a new necklace design for spring: the 30-inch "lei" or opera length necklace may be worn as a single strand or looped double as a choker. The "lei" is" usually thicker than a beaded strand and is fashioned with clusters of beads or tiny flowers. Most are match ed with earrings and bracelets. Wide, flexible beaded cuff bracelets and slender drop or mobile cluster earrings promise to be spring favorites. line and the corselet, which ex tends to the thighs. Both types feature rounded cups, some lifting the bust up to two inches with wiring or princesses-styling. Even though the waist is eased in new fashions, it must still be defined. The bra-lette, the corse let and the high-top girdle achieve proper waist control. The one piece foundation, allowing no break in the figure, emphasizes the long-torso look of the sheath or the overblouse. New girdles straighten the hip line with all-elastic construction or by calculated combinations of elastic and sheer rigid fabrics. Smin2 suits show skirts that are all-around knife pleated, inter estingly box pleated, cluster-pleated or panel pleated. Inverted pleats aid the slim jook and many sneatn skirts break into pleats just, above the knee. There is no shortage of straight skirts, however; they contribute to the long, lean look and are most rffective in crisD. tissue-light wool ens. Some are trumpeted above the knee for a high fashion effect; others are gracefully pleated clos to the hem for walking ease. Gored skirts offer easy slenderness and are seen in casual or spectator suit styles. , Further changes that typify the spring suit include the narrow sleeve, now set in high under the arms and often tapered to the wrist Sport suits often feature a shirtwaist sleeve, slightly balloon ed and French cuffed. Smart cuff links sometimes become part of the package and ere usually the only ornament on the suit. Buttons have exchanged their former glitter for a new crafted look. Leather, wood and self-or contrast-fabric, buttons show up on all categories of spring suits. Jewel trims have largely given way to such subtle detailing as braid, selt-scrolling, over-collars and cut-out designs. Pretty Changes Shown Collars and necklines show pretty spring changes, too. In the tailored suit,, long narrow re vers plus low placed pockets add to the lean silhouette. In the sports suit, de signers haveused the turn-down collar, the loose tab collar and the cardigan neckline in casual varia tions. Many designers have made novel collar treatments their sign ature for the season: one uses a pedal effect, another a "clergy" collar. Generally, open necklines and flat, generous collars are shown some with pretty touches of lace, linen or organdy. It's definitely a tweed spring for suits light, breezy, beauti ful tweeds are often wool-silk or wool-linen blends. But there is am ple choice of others. Waistline girdles are more pre valent, to be worn with short or long line brassiere, depending on the need for diaphragm control. Firm control is achieved with light-weight fabrics, new methods of banding and seam construction. Girdles are losing their bulky look. This season's foundations ap pear in such dainty fabrics as marquisette, power net and em broidered - cotton. Embossment and embroidery in a second eolor adds prettiness. White is the fav ored color, but there are many girdles, brassieres and corselets in black and some in soft pastels.
