Miss Photoflash Assured a Minor Movie Role But Has No Dreams of Becoming Film Star or High Fashion Model By ALFRED LEECH , Uaited Press Staff Correspondent , CHICAGO (UP) Diane Dani jgellis. ' 18-year-old beauty queen, is assured a bit part la a movie. But the has no girlish dreams of Hollywood stardom. ; "Beauty queens are a dime a .dozen out there." ' she said. : "But if they offered me a con tract I wouldn't turn it down." Diane last month was chosen by Chicago newspaper photog raphers as "Miss Photoflash" from a field ot 300 hopefuls. ; Since then, she's guided a baby elephant down State Street and she's baked the world's largest hamburger, a 33-pounder. Walking the elephant was fun, but ordinarily Diane takes public ity stunts in stride.' "It's part of the job," she said. If this sounds matter-of-fact for an 18-year-old, , it isn't because she lacks enthusiasm or doesn't think being Miss Photoflash is pretty wonderful It's just that Diane has been around. She's been a professional model since she was eight years old. .Without benefit of modeling school ( Her mother was a model, and everybody j in the family has mod eled professionally except her fa ther, who is busy running his own architectural and' engineering firm. The "model" family includes John Jr., .20, Richard, 16. Gail, 14, and Linda, 2tt, already a veteran before the cameras. This spring Diane will go to Hoi lywood for a bit part in "Artists and Models," with Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. But she has no illusions about Hollywood. For that matter, she has no dreams . of becoming a "high fashion' , model in New York. "They want the tall, thin, slinky type," she said. 'Chicago models, she said, are "happy, healthy and corn-fed." Diane herself Is brown-haired, S feet 6 inches tall and weighs 120 pounds. Her mother was a strawberry blonde and Diane's hair has reddish highlights. Her eyes are dark brown. The United States uses more than 35 million dollars worth of industrial diamonds a year. . Pope Pius Makes Lenten Appeal to World Catholics ' VATICAN CITY (UP) Pope Pius XII Thursday made a Lenten appeal to the forces of Catholicism to bring lost or wavering souls back to the church's fold. It was also the first time in three years that he delivered his annual Lenten speech personally. The Pope's voice was steady and clear 1a his 20-minute address of 2000 words.
