(UP) A public ity man and -an actor who con fessed firing a shot into the home of meat packing heir George Hormel, insisted Thursday it was a "publicity stunt" they planned with Hormel. Hollywood detectives last night booked Anthony Kent. , 26, Hor mel'i press agent, and actor Fred Hartman, 37. both of Hollywood, on suspicion of "feloniously and maliciously discharging a gun in to an inhabited dwelling." Detectives said Kent admitted firinp from a borrowed .22 rifle into Hormel's three-story Laurel Canyon home while be and Hart man stood near their parked car. However. Kent claimed it was a publicity stunt, they planned with Hormel. Hormel was questioned by police for several hours Wednesday along with the two shooting suspects. He denied any complicity in the jnci dent and was released. Detectives A. W. Hubka and Wil liam Mumers quoted Kent as say ing Hormel suggested the shoot ing as a way "to get even with the cops" for the heir's recent ar rest and - trial on a narcotics charge. 1 Hormel, 28, now a nightclub pianist who only last week was acquitted of marijuana possession charges, told police a shot splin tered a window in his home early Tuesday morning; narrowly- miss ing him. v Hormel said he was talking on tb telephone when ; the bullet crashed through the window and hit a wall only a few inches above him. He said he dropped to the floor to take cover, crawl ed to another room and called police. . j .- : . " Hormel claimed he was "framed", on the narcotics charge and after his acquittal threatened to go to the grand jury and ask for an investigation. At ' first he blamed ..."
