Sixth Straight Win
Coach Dick Ballantyne's South
Salem Saxons notched victory
- number six on their tally sticks
as they steamrolled over the Hills-
boro Spartans 68-41 last night in
Salem, and Bob Wulf. Saxon cen
ter had a field night tallying 23
of the sixty-eight counters in the
last game of 1954.
The Spartans opened play by
bitting a quick swisher from the
key, but that was , the extent of
: their lead in the game as the Saxes
surged back with fast points by
-Burkland and Foreman to put
South Salem into a lead they
didn't relinquish. The first period
of play was the only period that
Hillsboro was in the game score-
: wise as they tallied 9 to Salem's
14 points.
Phil Burkland, Saxon forward,
proved difficult to guard and to
, stop as he rolled up 18 counters
; himself. Spartan forward Oeorge
Rushlow trying to .guard Burk-

Vikings Lose
In Overtime
GRESHAM (Special) The
G:aai.i High Gopher won an
overtime thriller from the visiting
North Salem Vikings here Tues
day night, 68-65. The Vikings put
on a great second-half here after
looking rather ragged in the first
two quarters to play. !
Erratic passing and other mis
takes by North Salem worked well
into the plans of the fast-breaking
Gophers in the first half. Gresh
am led at the end of the first
quarter, 15-5, then increased their
lead to a 32-21 edge at the half
time. Starting the second half , with
the Gophers ahead by 11 points,
the Vikings put on a scoring drive
that knotted the game at 48-all
when the quarter ended.
The lead see-sawed back and
forth in the final quarter and end
ed with a 62-62 tie at the end of
regular playing time. In the over
time period. North Salem's Marv
Rhine scored three points on a
field goal and foul shot, but the
six points by Gresham more than
matched it
Bob Graham scored two free
throws and a field goal for Gresh
am in the overtime period to help
the victory.
High point honors went to Cliff
Shelton with 23 points. Second
place was. tied between the Vik
ings' Rhine with 19 and Wood
ford, also with 19.
North Salem's Bee team won
the prelim, 69-61.
