NEW YORK tf - The ' stock

an election celebration.'
Prices shot ahead with the heavi
est gains since the start of World
War IL

est levels since the grim October
days of the great crash of 1929.
Gains amounted to $1 to nearly
$5 a share in many instances in
key areas. AIL major divisions of
the market advanced There were
few laggard sections.
The Associated Press average of
60 stocks advanced $2.60. That gain
tops any single day since Sept 5,
1939. at the beginning of World War
IL On that day the average jumped
ahead $3.50.

$137.30, only 10 cents under the

Grain Price
Trends Mixed
CHICAGO IT) Market action
sprang largely from official Weath
er Bureau reports as to crop and
moisture conditions Wednesday.
In early deals there was little
decisive trend as traders tried to4
assay the effects of election chang
es. By midsession there were sev
eral distinct sinking spells which
carried wheat as much as two
cents and, soybeans as, much as
nine cents off. j
Some recovery came on toward
the close lifting several contracts
into the gain column. . M
. Wheat closed -l cents lower,
corn lower to higher, oats
lower to higher, and rye un
changed to higher, i Soybeans
brought anywhere from 2 cents
lower, to 1 higher and lard was
unchanged to 15 cents a hundred
pounds down. : i
