ROBERTS The annual Roberts Grange Community Fair will
be held Saturday, Oct 9, starting at noon. Prize money will total
$100 with Ermina Fisher, Marion County Home Extension agent,
in charge of judging. She will have assistants for all classifications.
Luncheon will be served all afternoon, and dinner win be served

ALBANY Al Van DahL late
founder and publisher of the Wes
tern Stamp Collector, has attain
ed a place in the hall of fame of
the American Philatelic Society.
The honor was announced at
the 68th annual convention of the
society in San Francisco, William
W. Wiley, editor of the stamp ma
gazine, reported on his return
from the meeting.)
Van Dahl founded the Western
Stamp Collector at Mill City May
7, 1931, but had moved bis head
quarters to Albany many years
before his death early this year,
Van Dahl is the 39th philatelist
to have his picture placed in the
hall of fame since the society was
founded m 1886.

SALEM HEIGHTS More than
70 mothers attended the covered-
dish luncheon Tuesday at Salem
Heights . School cafeteria . as the
Mothers Club held its first meet
ing of the year.
Mrs. Wiiford Noland conducted
the meeting, and it was announced
that the October meeting would be
held in! the evening for the fathers
and teachers. .
The attendance award will be
presented to the room having the
largest! number of fathers present
The Harvest Festival is scheduled
for November. -
Speak Youth Groups
Mrs. Helen Diekman, executive
director of the,, Camp Fire Girls,
spoke on Bluebirds and Camp Fire
organisations, and their need for a
coordinator in the Salem Heights
School. Jim Kern, executive from
the Boys Scouts, talked on the Cub
Scout program.
Steve Irving, principal, wel
comed tiie mothers, and said that
he was "impressed by the fnend
liness of the group", also that
there were 303 students and 11
teachers in the school with 141 be
ing in the first and second grades,
Handbooks are to be distributed
soon, be said, and all parents are
invited to visit school at any time.

Cascade Union High Opens

TURNER Oasswork began for
336 students Tuesday at, Cascade
Union High School which serves
Aumsville. Turner and adjacent
rural districts. i
The total was 30 more than the
opening day figure a' year ago,
reported L. J. Uhrhammer, ad
ministrative principaL He said
the total was the highest first-day
registration in the history of the
school, although the figure rose
to 360 during last term.
About 20 more students are ex
pected to register toon, the prin
cipal said. He estimated the stu
dent body will rise to 380 during
the year. " .
Tuesday's freshman dass of 112
pupils also was the largest in the
school's history, compared with
101 last year. There were 90 sopho
mores, 72 juniors and 62 seniors
registered this week.
The school has added the equiv
Ialent of one and one-half instruc
tors this term, bringing the total
to 17 full time teachers plus the
administrative staff.
New on the faculty are Ralph
McKenzie, a freshman ' teacher;
Geraidine Haner, English teacher;
and Calvin Hersey. new basket
ball coach who will also teach
political science.

Barclift was reported recovering
satisfactorily, but ' no immediate
report concerning the condition of
