Girl, Feared
River Victim,
Found Hiding
PORTLAND Wi '' Police and
volunteers searched hours Monday
night for a girl they feared had
drowned in the Tualatin River.
Then they . found she had been
hiding in a tree. : i i I
The girl was Thomasine Biggs,

swimming with her sister, Nadine,
14, and a neighbor, David Smith.
16. At dusk, she swam away and
climbed into a tree house as a
trick on the other two.. v j
When she saw all the searchers
and the other commotion, she was
afraid to own up. But eventually
she sneaked home. It was 2 a m
before searchers found out she had
arrived there safely. I ' .
The police report said they
understood the girl would be taking
her meals in a standing position
for some time. , I
