In this there were eight num bers drawn by 4-H Club and Fu ture Farmer-junior breeders to further the Holstein breed. The lucky number holders were given an opportunity to select Holstein calves, appraised for fair market value and priced at a 30 per cent discount to the youthful buyers. Peter - Dinsdale, Cornelius. drew number 1 and selected a calf consigned by Ray Ruby of Scio, for $175. Harry Reihle, Ore gon City, paid $155 for a calf sold by Gordon Haun, Leuden, Wash. Clerks Given Wage Boost Wage Increases for large group of unionized Salem grocery store clerks was announced Wednesday. The Increases are retroactive to Aug. 1, according to John R. Moore, business representative of the AFL Retail Clerks Union, Lo cal 992. The contract was signed Tuesday night following a negotia tion meeting. - r About 150 grocery and vegetable clerks in most of Salem's larger markets are included in the union. Cooperating in the negotiations have been the Federal Mediation Service and the Salem Central Labor CounciL Women clerks In the top wage brackets will receive a cents per hour Increase and men in that category win receive 6 cents. - Both men and women in lower brackets will receive increases ranging from 2 to 5 cents per hour.
