Wheat closed the week 2 lower to 4 higher, corn V- lower, oats S lower to H higher, rye un changed to 1 cent higher, soybeans 3 lower to Vj higher and lard 10 cents to $1.93 a hundred pounds lower. Probably the most interesting development during the week oc curred in the world market. The United States raised the subsidy she pays exporters, enabling them to export wheat under the inter national wheat agreement at low er prices, and Canada promptly met the competition by cutting her export price. UP The United States must support Asian causes, including independence, to overcome the new Communist techniques of aggression shown in Indochina, Vice President Richard Nixon declared Saturday. The United States as leader of the Free World can win "only if we associate ourselves vigorously and unequivocally with the aspira tions of the people for economic progress, independence, peace and equality," he said. Independence, he told a graduat ing class of 270 and a crowd of about 5,000 at an outdoor . com mencement at his alma mater Whittier College "means inde pendence from any foreign domi nation." The new Communist techniques, the vice president said, involve the use of foreign - controlled, directed and inspired revolutions, "the na tives of the country they desire to dominate do the fighting for them. And they accomplish this by win ning the leaders over to the Com munist cause." The vice president received an i honorary doctor of laws degree from Whittier, where he graduated in 1934, and also a distinguished alumnus award. He flew to nearbyv Los Angeles from Washington Friday night and then escaped injury in an auto mobile accident. The driver of a car which sideswiped one in which the vice president was riding was booked for misdemeanor drunk driving. No one was hurt in the accident. FFA Honors Imbler Youth UNION. Ore.
