Sightseers in Hawaii Flock To Volcano HONOLULU I Sightseers flocked back to Kilauea Tuesday j and the 4,000-foot volcano on Ha waii Island obliged with a brief fiareup of activity after a quiet I Bight The show was not nearly so spec tacular, however, as Monday, when Kilauea ended a two-year nap by burling lava 600 feet into the air in its most vigorous eruption of the century. An estimated 10,000 persons went by car, plane and afoot to Hawaii Monday. But late arrivals were rather disappointed because the rolcano began quieting down at noon. Early Tuesday, as the first sight seers began forming again on the rim of the crater, action picked up in the fire pit far below. Lava fountains spurted 30 feet into the j air. Red hot lava spread in foun tains over an area at the bottom of the pit about the size of a foot- ball field. Landslides roared down the sheer walls of the pit, which drops 460 feet down from the floor of the crater. The crater floor, which j cracked Monday, was quiet Tues day. Fumes still rose from a ridge ef lava 2.000 yards long formed by the crack along the crater floor. UJS. Officers May Train Indochinese WASHINGTON U0 - The United States is talking with Viet Nam and France about giving American efficrs the dominant role in train ing native troops to fight in the Indochina War. American officials are reported te be convinced that if the war goes on the training program must be radically revised and that native troops should be organized into di visions, which may total 10,000 or 12,000 men, rather than the much smaller battalions the French have been developing. Officials said here that final de cisions on the training proposals will be made as part of the possible program of American and allied intervention fn the Indochina fight inga program that the French government is expected to press for if the Geneva conference fails to produce an armistice in Indo china. State Department officials said they understood there were reports ki Indochina that the government ef Viet Nam had agreed to an American training program but they said they had no information to bear out such reports.
