Hot Sandwich
Takes Chicken,
Pineapple
SAacktime Is any time you're
hungry. These hot sandwiches are
good tracks for luncheon and
hearty enough, when combined
ith relishes and a good dessert,
for an impromptu Sunday night
upper.
The Chicken-Pineapple - Salad
Bun can be made in advance,
wrapped in waxed paper or foil
nd kept in the refrigerator until
serving time when it is placed jn
broiler to heatthe bun and men
the cheese.
CHICKEN PINEAPPLE
SALAD BUN"
cups diced, cooked chicken
cups sliced celery
cups pineapple tidbits
Salt and pepper
4 cup mayonnaise or salad
dressing
4 hamburger buns, cut in half
4 cup grated Cheddar cheese
Combine chicken, celery, 4
tup of the pineapple tidbits and
seasonings and moisten with may
onnaise. Spread buns with chicken
mixture (buns may be toasted
firs.). Sprinkle with grated cheese
and place an additional pineapple
tidbit in the center of each for
garnish. Then place under broiler
or in a moderate oven (350 de
grees) long enough to melt the
cheese and heat the buns. Serves

PINEAPPLE CHEESEWICHF.S
3 hamburger buns, cut in half,
toasted and buttered
4 pound of sliced Cheddar
cheese
6 slices pineapple, well
drained
6 slices of ham
Place one slice of ham, then
one slice of pineapple on each
buttered bun. Top with a slice of
cheese. Broil under low heat until
cheese is melted.
PINEAPPLE CHEESEBURGERS
Broil hamburger patties as
usual, then top with a ring of slic
ed pineapple and a slice of Ched
dar cheese. Return to broiler just
long enough to melt the cheese.
Sandwich between split, toasted
hamburger buns and serve im
mediately.

omist, will be in Salem on Wed
nesday, May 2 at 7:30 a. m. to
conduct a new type of "Fashions
in Laun-dry-ing" party for Al
Laue Refrigeration Co., dealer in
automatic home laundry equip
ment. Miss Clark is well qualified for
her role of hostess. She recently
joined the Home Service depart
ment of Hamilton Manufacturing
company for whom she will con
duct laundry clinics throughout
the country and participate in re
search with new synthetic fab
rics. A graduate of Ohio State Uni
versity, Miss Clark has been act
ive in home economics work for
several years, and has extensive
background in connection with
the use of appliances, specializing
particularly in home laundering
equipment She is an active mem
ber of the Home Economists in
Business, American Home Econ
omists Association, and the Ohio
Home Economist Association.
DESSERT ITEM
Canned peaches and evaporat
ed milk combine beautifully in
many tasty desserts. A simple
but elegant one is baked custard
and peaches. Make individual
custards with evaporated milk,
unmold in pretty sherbet dishes
and surround with golden peach
slices.
HONEY NUTS
Honey sugared walnuts are par
ticularly nice to pass when you're
entertaining at afternoon tea.
They're easy to make too. Shell
a pound package of walnuts.
Then combine 4 cup each honey
and water with 14 cups granu
lated sugar. Boil to 242 degrees,
or a soft ball stage. Remove from
heat and stir in 4 teaspoon va
nilla and the shelled walnuts.
Stir until thick and creamy. Sepa
rate nuts on waxed paper.

For Summer
Some of those "table ready"
meats we see in the meat dis
plays have other uses than in
sandwiches or on cold plate
menus. Here are several that the
meat packers ha ye suggested for
summer eating.
THURINGER SPECIAL
, 6 slices ( V pound ) Thuringer
3 slices white bread
1 tablespoon prepared mustard
3 slices American cheese food
Toast one side of bread in broil
er. Turn. Spread untoasted side
with mustard. Arrange 2 slices
of Thuringer on each slice of
bread. Cover with a slice of
cheese. Place in broiler about 5
minutes or until cheese melts.
Variation: Use sliced Bologna,
Minced Specialty, Farmer Cerve
lat, or Cooked Salami.
SAUSAGE CORN BREAD
1 pound pork sausage links or
meat
1 package corn bread mix
Pan-fry sausage until browned
and all pink color disappears,
according to the directions on the
package. Drain. Line bottom of
8x8x2-inch pan with waxed pap
er. Arrange Sausage on paper.
Mix corn bread according to di
rections on package. Pour over
sausage. Bake according to di
rections on corn bread mix pack
age. Turn upside down on a hot
platter. Remove pan and paper.
Serve hot with milk, gravy, syrup,
or honey.
SPANISH RICE WITH
THURINGER
4 pound Thuringer, cut into
slivers
1 cup long-grain rice
l4 cup salad oil
2 cloves garlic, mashed
Vi cup chopped celery
2 cups hot water
2 cups cooked tomatoes
MORE FLAVOR
For extra good flavor, add a
Eieceof salt pork to large dry
mas as you cook them. A cas
serole we especially like to make
wth the limas is put together
like this: combine cooked dry
limas with a favorite; barbecue
sauce and top with canned Vien
na sausages. Cover and bake in
a moderate oven about . hour.
Uncover and continue baking un
til sausages brown.
. 1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon sugar
Wash, dry, and brown the rice
iii heated oil in skillet Add gar
lic, celery, and brown lightly. Add
Water. Cover. Simmer 15 min
utes. Add other ingredients. Stir
and cook until rice is tender and
mixture is thick.
