New Classes"" Are Slated i New classes at the YWCA will begin next week, Monday, April 19. ana run tor a period of six weeks. The classes wil be held in the new YWCA building, located at 768 .State Street Registration is now open and a place may be reserved by calling the YWCA. Oil painting, taught by Carl Hall, will be offered Monday eve nings from 7:30 to 9:30 pjn. and Tuesday afternoons from 1:30 to 3; 30 p.m. Beginners and the more advanced are welcome. Millinery, one of the more pop ular classes, is again being offered with Miss Marie Baker teaching the class. The milliners meet Tues day evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 p. m. Mrs. Mary Brown, professional lampshade maker, will again head a class in lampshade making. The class is offered on Tuesday after noons from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The class is limited and early regis tration is necessary. Ever popular bridge, two class es, one in beginning and the other intermediate, wQl be offered. Mrs. .Charles McElhinny will head be ginning class on Thursday eve nings from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. and Mrs. Elmer Berg teaches the in termediate class on Tuesday eve nings from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. With spring in the air, Salem women are heading towards the golf course. Bunny Mason, golf professional, will help feminine golfers conquer the game on Thursday and Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. For further information one may call the YWCA. April 17. at the First Methodist Church of Salem will be that of Miss Marilyn Mull, daughter of Mr.: and Mrs. Eldon Mull of In dependence, and Ensign James Cooke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Cooke of Mill City. Ensign Cooke has been stationed in Florida with the U.S. Naval Air Force for some time. He is driving out to the West coast this week, expect ing to arrive home by Friday. The Keizer Ladles Sewing Club will hold a plant sale at the regu lar meeting Thursday at the home of Mrs. Nora Pearce and Mrs. A. A. Niederberger, 4140 North River Road. At the YWCA board meeting Tuesday morning plans for post ponement of the April dedication were announced. Date will be get for early In June, at which time the furnishings will be complete end the public will have a chance to see the long awaited structure decorated. Mrs. A. A. Schramm heads the dedication committee. Groups from Eugene and Port land plan to attend the service. Big project of this month is the P-TA breakfast April 23, at which the Y will serve 1500 peo ple between 7 and 9 a.m. The Barbershop Quartet, Rota ry benefit for the Y, will be held April 23. Mrs. Maurice .Saffron is the Y member managing the ticket sale. i Mrs. H.. O. Schneider, mem I bership chairman, announced 300 I new members, many of whom have already signed up for clas ses. Her committee reports plans are well underway for the huge membership and donor scroll, which is to contain the thousands of names belonging and contri buting to the Y up to the time of formal dedication in June. This will be a permanent scroll and will be kept in the new building. Miss Gertrude A c h e s o n an nounced that financially the asso . ciation is ahead of any previous i year for April She mentioned two private gifts which will pro vide some major maintenance ; equipment Mrs. G. F. Chambers of the house committee outlined the po licy for use of the building by groups not belonging to the YW CA. Reimbursement for main tenance of the building such as heat, washing and waxing floors and cooking must be made by all groups at regular meetings. How ever, community service groups visiting the building for the first time will be invited at no cost as well as benefit affairs for the YW. The public relations committee announced its plans to take the project of finishing and furnish ing the residence rooms among the rural women's groups, begin ning with a talk at the Polk County Federation of Women's Clubs at Perrydale April 21. Mrs. B. E. Hollingsworth was appoint ed to the committee in charge of radio publicity. The board asked; the chairman of the board of trustees, William L. Phillips, to investigate the pos sibilities of using ? the property at 141 S. Winter for a temporary parking lot for income until the swimming pool can be built The resignation of Mrs. Dean ne McMurren, adult program di rector, was accepted.
