From Th Oregon Statesman's Valley CorrsponclnH North Howell Groups Meet (l NORTH HOWELL The ML An gel center of the Farm Bureau met Monday night at the grange hall with chairman Jim Jackson presidios nd Mr. and Mrs. Irvin ' Nicodemus as hosts. Speakers were Fred Schwab of ML Angel and Wesley Kvarsten of Salem. Kvarsten is technician for the Marion' bounty planning commission, an official body cre ated by the county court under state law, for the purpose of pre paring plans for the orderly de velopment of county resources. It has to do with .a system of traffic routes, recreation areas, public schools, public buildings, and a general pattern of land use or zoning. NORTH HOWELL Over $15 was realized from the traveling basket project sponsored by Mrs. Leo Peterson and Mrs. Andrew Hall, hostesses for the meeting of the Grange hall Tuesday. Visitors were Mrs Catherine Ren ter, Mrs Margaret Follrath, Mrs. Ed Zitzewitz and Mrs. C. E. Walt- man. Winners in a pie and cake contest were Mrs. A. B. Wiesner and Mrs. Venue Leighty. Hostesses for the April 20 meet ing will be Mrs. Percy Dunn and Mrs. E. H. Beals, who will also serve at the regular grange meet ing on April 12. Speech Correction Course Slated for Salem Residents Statesman Newt Service MONMOUTH An extension course, "Principles and Practices of Speech Correction" will be of fered at Salem High School build ing starting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 27. Robert L. Mulder, director of the newly-opened Western Oregon Cooperative Speech and Hearing Center at Oregon College of Edu cation, Monmouth, will be the in structor. According to Mulder, this course should be of interest to parents and teachers in order that they may help children with speech problems. Emphasis will be placed on techniques for the cor rection and prevention of speech disorders. Dallas Host For District JC Meeting Statesman Newt Service DALLAS The spring board meeting of District 2, Oregon Junior Chamber of Commerce, will be held in Dallas Sunday, March 28, announces Frank Se accotti, president of the Dallas chapter. I i . Harlan Roth, district vice pres ident from Silverton, will pre side. Arrangements for the ses sion are being made! under the direction of Stan Malo of the host club. ! j This is the first board meet ing td be held in Dallas and it is significant because it will mark the start of electioneering by prospective candidates for state laycee offices. ; S Jaycees representatives from throughout the state ate expected to attend. During the business sessions, wives of delegates will be entertained by Dallas Jay- cettes. ; j Hearing Today For Pvt. Zerkel In Assault Case Statesman Newt Service - ALBANY Preliminary hear ing for Pvt. Arthur Franklin Zer kel, 21, charged with assault with intent to kill will be at 3 p.m.. Friday, District Judge Wendell Tompkins anounced. i Zerkel demanded the hearing when be was. arraigned Tuesday. Hazel Hins dale, vice grand, has received the seal of perfection in the work. Plans were made for guest night at the April 20th meeting. when the IOOF lodge anniversary will be observed. Albany Earl Walters, 41, Sa lem, forfeited $200 bail in Linn County district court Tuesday when he failed to appear to de fend himself on a charge of driv ing while intoxicated to which he had pleaded innocent. Walters was arrested Dec 29, 1953. Judge Wendell Tompkins said he was ordering Walter s driver s license suspended for 90 days.
