Van Duzer Tim ber Corridor must be cut down, accc ding to a release made Sat urday by the Oregon State High way Commission. An increasing amount of blow down of timber on the south and west sides of the corridor! is blamed for this necessity. The corridor is located along the Salmon River on State Route 18 just west of the Cascade Range summit A report from the commission explains that on Jan. 21 of this year some 600 trees in the corri dor blew down, 68 or which fell across the highway. On this sin gular occasion, nine cars and 15 people were caught between the falling trees. other serious falls nave oc curred along the corridor on Nov. 13 and 24 of 195L Dec. 17 and 18 of 1951 and Jan. 7, 1952. Since the Commission has the responsi bility of the traveling public, it has been ordered that these dan ger trees be removed as soon aa possible. CrasEBrangsTTj Damage suit For $40,593 : A suit for judgments totaling $40,593 was filed with the Ma rion County clerk's office Sat urday by a Woodburn girl who was a passenger in a two-car col lision last Aug. 23. ; The girl,; Barbara Baumann (through her guardian ad litem), includes as defendants Marcia Labar, Woodburn, "who waa driv er of the car, and Verlin Kauff man, Mufino, driver of the other car. The accident occurred at Molalla and. Barlow Roada west of Molalla. I Miss Baumann was thrown from the Labar auto by the im pact of collision. She claims to have sustained a laceration near her ear, abrasions about the face, shoulder and knee as well as lacerations about her body and fractures. , The complaint asserts that she will be unable to continue normal work for the remainder of heMLfe.
