Beethoven, that gentleman whose stock soars higher land; higher in these days of fine recordings. is further raised in the esteem of the non-professional listener, on several disks recently! released. One included in our listeninz this week was an excellent recording of the Violin Concerto In D Major played by Herman Krebbers, with the Hague Philharmonic orchestra under William Van! Otterloo. This is an Epic recording. J Beethoven also appears, at his best on an RCA Victor recording of the NBC orchestra under Tos canini playing bis Septet The other side of this record, the Sym phony la D by Cherubini, is also under Toscanini's direction and a fitting companion to Beethoven. On another theme, is a recording of the voice of George London singing operatic songs so often al loted to the bass-baritone those roles of Gods and Demens. The Columbia recording includes seven arias, in which London appears as Woten in "Das Reragold" and "Die Walkure" and as Mephistopheles in songs from Berlioz' "Damnation of Faust," Boito's "Mefistofele" and Gounod's "Faust." He sings also. "The Song of the Flea" by Moussorgsky. All are played by Vienna Symphony under Rudolf Moralt except the final number from Rubinstein's The Demon" which is played by the Metropolitan Opera orchestra under Kurt Adler. Of special interest this week is the opera "Lncla di Lammermoor" to be heard on ABC this week. Highlights from the popular opera were recorded on ah Epic disk and released recently.! The famous Sextette, Mad Scene! and Tomb Scene are included.
