O&G Advisers -. - or Timber ges PORTLAND 4 The 0 i C Advisory Board recommended sev eral changes Wednesday to aid in sales of timber on 0 & C land. The land, originally granted to the O k C Railroad, was taken back by the federal government years ago. and is now adminis tered by the Bureau of Land Man agement as timber: and grazing land. . Among recommendations was one to allow lumbermen outside of a given marketing area to bid on green timber tracts if there are no bidders on first offering within the marketing area. Another was to let the Bureau of Land Management use either scaling or cruising methods of measuring timber for sales. Ear lier, the board advocated . scaling alone. Chairman Charles A. And it isn't. This is the jNavy of the deadly Nautilus, the world's first atomic-powered submarine, which will be launched Thursday. It's also -a Navy preoccupied by "habttability." It would do no good for an atom-Ic-powered submarine to be able to stay at sea indefinitely j if. its crew couldn't stand up undlr the wearing days in their cramped quarters. Men Kept at Peak To keep men's minds and bodies at their peak on long atom sub cruises the Navy called in Indus trial designers J. Gordon 4ippin cptt and Walter P. Margulies. As a result, the Nautilus ill be the most livable sub ever j built It is the first craft of its kind in which livability has been 'ai main concern from the outset. One aim of the designers was to give the crew's quarters j a dif-; ferent look. This would giye the I men a feeling of being away from j their jobs when not on watch. j Special berths, with foam hibber i mattresses and bedside slights, were installed.
