Project leaders for the 26 wom en present were Mrs. -Harold Anglin and Mrs. Leo Hammer. They were assisted by the other members. Assisting hostesses were Mrs. Harry Phillips and Mrs. Melvin Evenden. The group decided to hold its annual Christmas party on Dec 10 at the home of Mrs. John Gage, with Mrs. Lewis Patterson and Mrs. John Van Laanen as hostesses. January's project will concern simple home repairs directed by Mrs. Phillips and Mrs. Harold Beach. A new member attending Thursday's meeting was Mrs. Rob ert Price. Daughters Plan Program Statesman Newt Servica STAYTON Mrs. Clara Doz ler will be the new counselor for Our Lady of Fatima Troop of Junior Catholics. She served as counselor for her daughters troop who received their 5 year pins three years ago. A poetry contest is to be held this winter in St Boniface and St Marys schools. . The film "They Heard the An gels Sing" is to be shown Dec 6. The proceeds are to be used to help the Knights of Columbus with their Christmas Cheer. There are 14 study clubs in the parish under the leadership of members of the Catholic Daugh ters, it was reported. On Sunday, Nov 22, all mem bers, juniors, and candidates are to receive communion in a body at the 7:30 a.m. mass. The initi ation starts at 2 p.m. with a buf fet lunch afterward. All the courts are invited and may bring candidates. A number of state of ficers will be present The chairman of the November social committee was Mrs. Ar lene Frost Joseph Portal, staff officer purser in the Merchant Marine, who is home on leave at Shaw, gave a talk on Korean and Japanese arts and crafts as he showed them. Afterward he showed colored slides taken all over the world. Hoxie Home Scene of Meet At Lincoln Statesman News Serrict LINCOLN The scenic home of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hoxie ov erlooking the Willamette River at Lincoln, was the meeting place of the Lincoln Goodwill Club Thursday. Mrs. Hoxie, assisted by Mrs. Jeff Williams served dessert lun cheon preceding the business session. Special guests were Mrs. Stanley Rolfeness, Miss Alpha Logsden and Mrs. C. R. Allen. Presiding at the business session was the new president Mrs. Jeff Williams. Devotional leader Mrs. Edward Schlegel took her Thanksgiving topic from the Bible. This year the .L.G.C. has de cided to send Christmas gifts to the Roseburg veterans hospital, as its project The annual Christ mas party of the club is to be held at the home of Mrs. Eva Pur vine, with a gift exchange and a .no hostess luncheon. 4 Corners Pupils Leave, Register Statesman News Service FOUR CORNERS Several Four Corners School transfers and registrations took place this week. Brent trans ferred here from Englewood acnool, balem. Marcilla Puffer entered the fifth grade.- She is the daughter ot mt. and Mrs. Fred Puffer. The family moved here from Red mond, Ore. Also entering are Shirley Car ver, fourth grade, and Susan Car ver, second grade, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Carver. They formerly lived in the Mac- leay district. Candy Making Club Project Statesman News Service BRUSH COLLEGE Oregon Sweets was the project demon strated by leaders Mrs. Donald Forester and Mrs. Oliver Sargent, at the Brush College Home Ex tension meeting at the home of Mrs. W. L. Lantis in Brush Col lege hills, Thursday. Demonstrated was making 10 varieties of candies and the use of nuts and fruits in candies. Also featured was gift wrapping. . Of interest was the wide var iety of decorated gift packages displayed by Mrs. Mike Focht of Brush College. A no hostess lun cheon was served, with the pro ject leaders furnishing dessert ' Problems discussed , at . the meeting were the lack of time and money of members and the poorly maintained county roads. Clements Dies In Searsport, Maine Statesman News Service MIDDLE GROVE Mrs. Harry Clements, mother of Mrs. Norman Fletcher, died Nov. 11, at her home in Searsport, Maine," follow ing a long illness. Mr. and Mrs. Clements and a granoson, David Clements, were residents of this community three years ago when Clements con structed the Fletchers new home here. Mrs. Fletcher had been called U her , mother's bedside two months ago. Tuesday, Nov. 17. It is sponsored by the Mother's club and proceeds will go to school. Amity The WSCS of the Me thodist Church will hold its an nual bazaar Thursday in the Al lison building on W. Trade Street beginning at 10 a.m. A turkey dinner wil be served at 6:30 p.m. Sunnyside Mrs. Paul Swope will be hostess for the Thanks giving party of the Friendly Hour Club at her home on Wednesday. Wednes day evening, when the Detroit laanna women s auxiliary of the American Legion put on'their an nual Armistice Day dinner. Pro ceeds from the event each year go to the community children's Christmas treat The auxiliarv was assisted by the men's unit of the American Legion. Pringle The Pringle Wo men's Club will meet Wednesday for a no-host lunch. If weather permits more work will be done on the grounds around the club house. Johns ton. Cause of the fire was thought to have been an over-heated stove pipe.
