About 60 members and guests were present I m here to describe how our department works in Portland," CapL Brown explained, "not to sway your opinions. I do think the addition of women to police work would be a help to your community if the proper ground work organization is established, she said. CapL Brown described the du ties of her staff in Portland which goes by the title of Wom en's Protective Division of the Police Bureau. Uppermost in her address was the emphasis that heir department "fulfills a social need which otherwise might be neglected simply because there isn't enough time in the regular channels of investigation." She explained that her department operates on a 24-hour basis as sisting many adults in need as well as juveniles.
