' Cordon had some optimistic words
Thursday for the Oregon and
- Washington - Land , Title ' Associa
' tions holding a joint meeting here.
Cordon .said he sees no business
recession ahead. He predicted that
employment viH continue high be
cause of consumer demand from
an increasing population. ;
Government spending also will
'continue to , have its ' effect and,
although taxes- are high, this mon
ey goes back into the "economy,
the senator said. He pointed' out
that even foreign aid money brings
the benefits of . foreign purchases
in this country.
.Cordon predicted that Congress
will provide the money needed to
install generators at McNary Dam.
He said that is the sort of project
where "Uncle gets a run for his
money, because the money is paid
tack,"

Aim of Project
A project aimed at creating
committees throughout the state
to form small local libraries was
adopted by the board of direc
tors of the Oregon Library As
sociation at the first meeting
of their, fiscal year, this week.
Board members expressed hope
that this action would eventual.

Road Closure
The new highway between Uma
tilla, Ore., and Wallula, Wash., will
be closed Saturday for at least a
month because of the danger the
road is being undermined, the Ore
gon Highway Department said
Wednesday. '
W. C Williams, Assistant state
highway engineer, said there was
danger the pool of water rising
behind McNary .Dam was washing
away some nils ir the road, which
was relocated, recently because of
the dam, ' y?vV-"
' .He said the pool was ' being
raised to 340 feet above sea level,
and it would take another, month
to reach that point After that level
is reached, any needed repairs
will be made and the road re
opened, he said. ' v ' v
Alternate routes are available
for travel in that section of East
ern Oregon a a d ' Washington,

A car stolen from Stanley E.
Parton, ' 1150 Spruce ' St, some
time early Thursday morning was
recovered .later in the morning
in Yoncalla, Douglas County, and
a pair ox Seattle juvenil
boy, 16, and a girL ! 15 admit
ted taking it
The pair told polict they stole
Parton's car after abandoning an
other car they had stolen in
Portland in the 600 block of
Spruce Street It had run out of
gas.-When the juveniles were ap
prehended by police they were
driving a Cadillac; taken ' froc
