Helt zel, public utilities commissioner, for lowering rates inside 'Spring field to compete with the city owned . Springfield .Power Com pany., : ' . An order issued by former public utilities commissioner Georf e H. Flag? which permitted the Mountain States Company to reduce rates was said by William S. Fort, Springfield attorney, to be Improperly issued. He rep resents four customers of the Mountain States Company. His clients, he said, are suffer ing from discrimination because the company's customers inside Springfield get power 20 to 25 per cent cheaper than customers outside the city. Francis Hill, attorney for the company, maintained that power companies have a right to reduce rates to meet competition in dif ferent localities. He argued that the Mountain States Company had to cut rates to remain in bus iness in Springfield. Fort asserted that the law for bids any power company , from discriminating against its cus tomers but Hill said the law did not mean that at alL Men who brought the action are G. W. Btqua, James S. Catherine MacDonald had filed the complaint against A. G. and Ruth L. McGuire, 1369 Center St, seeking $9,944 damages. The plaintiff alleges she was a guest in the McGuire home on May 14, 1952, and had gone to get her wraps when she slipped on a small rug at the entrance to a bedroom. The complaint alleged negli gence on the part of the Mc Guires for having a sliooing rup on a highly polished floor and for not warning the plaintiff about it ' After about one and one-half hours deliberation th jury re turned a verdict in favor of the McGuires.
