former ML Angel business man,
member of the Eberle Bros, gro
cery store and prominent Legion
naire, became Brother Benedict
of ML Angel Abbey Tuesday,
when he took the three-year tows
of a Benedictine monk during a
solemn mass in the Abbey
Church, celebrated by his broth
er, the Rev. Luke Eberle, OSB.
The Rt Rev. Abbot Thomas
Meier, OSB, of ML Angel re
ceived the vows. . -. - !

Agnes C Hoag, 76, will be held

Mrs. Hoag, who died Wednes
day at a Dallas rest home, was
born June 11, 1877, at Buena
Vista where she was married to
Dwight A. Hoag on Dec. 20, 1899.
She had lived in the Monmouth-
Independence area most of her
life and at Dallas for the past
four months.
The deceased was a member
of Odah Chapter, Order of East
ern Star, at Independence.

After the services, close rela
tives of the three brothers were
breakfast guests of the Abbey.
Bora in ML Angel
Brother Benedict was born in
ML Angel, one of the eight chil
dren of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Eberle, four of whom have now
entered religious life, two of the
girls becoming nuns of the Bene
dictine Convent at ML AngeL
They are known as Sister M.
Barnadette and Sister M. Car
lotta. He attended ML Angel schools
and graduated from ML Angel
College. After the death of his
parents, he and his brother, VaL
took over the Eberle store. For
a time, he worked in the editorial
offices of SL Joseph Magazine
and left that job for service in
the Army. He served overseas
during World War II, receiving
several citations.
After the war, he returned to
ML Angel and the store, taking
a prominent part in the life of
the community.
About a year and. a half ago,
he surprised everyone by enter
ing; the monastery, and soon be
came identified with the clerical
and secretarial work of the Ab
bey and Press, in which work
he will continue as Brother
Benedict.

showed an increase of nine pupils
over opening-day enrollment for

Mrs. Grace Roach, principal, re
ported thatjeveral mote eighth
grader are expected to enroll
Mrs. Roach will also teach Glee
Club. This is her eighth year at
North Santiam. She has 28 stu
dents in her room.
Mrs. R. Loucks, who teaches
fifth and sixth grades, has 32 pu
pils. She also is band instructor
and playground supervisor. 1
Mrs. Ray Killin has 16 in the
third-fourth room. Mrs. Letty Gen-
ree of Salem, who replaces Mrs.
H. Carlson of Aumsville in the
primary room, has an enrollment
of 20.
Mrs. Albert Krenz is again in
charge of the cafeteria.

annual business meeting of the
Western! Lutheran Publishing
Committee, Inc., at Portland Wed
nesday. The Rev. Mr. Luthro is
secretary-treasurer of. the 12-
member committee which publish
es the eight-page, twice a month
es the eight-page "Western Luth
eran" twice a month.
Circulation now is 7,500, an in
crease of about 2,000 during the
past year. Dr. Elmer M. Johnson
is full-time editor manager. Offi
ces of the paper were moved from
Sacramento, Calif, to Portland a
year ago.
