He was arrested by state police when it was dis covered he had switched his car's original Washington plates for those from Oregon. TWO AUTOS COLLIDE Automobiles driven by William Maurice Ball, 219 N. 28th St, and Charles Weinberg, Scio, collided Wednesday morning at 12th and State Streets. Ball's auto incurred damage to the grill and left front and Weinberg's was damaged on the left side. No one was injured. RUNKEL WILL SPEAK Dr. Howard W. He is an aircraft main tenance and repairman. Robert L. Davidson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward F. Davidson, St Paul, was recently commissioned a second Lieutenant In the Air Force Reserve at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. He was grad uated from Notre Dame Univer sity, South Bend, Ind.4, in 1952. Darrell Makes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Makes, Dayton Route 1, is a member of a clear ing team with the 73rd Combat Enginers' Batalion which is re moving mines and napalm from the de-mili&rized zone in Korea. He entered the Army in January. Enroute home from Korea is CpL Dale R. Larson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter R. Larson, Sil verton. Entering the Army in January 1952, he was assigned to the 2nd Division the following October. Pvt Arthur B. Kemplin, Yam hill, recently arrived in Korea and has been assigned to the 7th Division. Salem Community Chest is getting down to the business , of final preparation for the fund campaign Oct 6-15, with two more organization functions slated for today. ; . All division leaders and team captains will meet at 11 a.m. in chest headquarters downtown. Tonight the professional division lead ers and solicitors, all volunteers, will meet at 7:30 at the home of Dr. Robert F. Anderson. This is one in a series of "home meet ings' now in progress. Drive Chairman Otto J. Wilson plans to call for a series of noon time reports of money-raisins; pro gress dairy during the campaign from 11:30 to 12:30 noon at chest headquarters. This year's slogan is: "Everyone Give, Fof Goodness Solicitation A women's volunteer division for general residential solicitation will be formed again this year. Chairman Wilson said emphasis will still be on giving at one's place of employment but house-to-house solicitation will be con ducted for any supplementary gifts. Canada Horse Oregon Riders The Oregon Mounted Posse, Sa lem's flashy riding group, will be featured entertainment attraction at this year's International Horse Show Exposition at Vancouver, B. C Sept 22-28. With State Police and Mounted Police escort along the way, the drill team's 23 riders, with their wives, will drive to Vancouver Tuesday in a caravan of cars and horse trailers. At the exposition they will present five drills in the final climax spot of horse show performances. It's a repeat performance at the exposition and the third Vancou ver appearance of the posse in recent -years. In other public do ings this year the Salem- and Oregon-promoting group has ap peared in shows at Tillamook, Canby, St Paul, Molalla and oth er cities. Wilhelm, chief clerk of the Marion County draft board, returned to Salem Wednes day after attending the funeral services of her mother, Mrs. S. W. Paget of Everett Wash. Mrs. Pagef and her husband, who preceded her in death in 1942, lived in Salem from 1940 to 1941. She was born at Marcellus, Mien., July 17, 1874 and was mar ried to S. W. Paget in 1891. The couple moved to Everett in 1918. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Wilhelm, Salem, Mrs. Marie Null, Mrs. Mildren Jacobsen and Mrs. Doris Linden, all of Everett; and two sons, John Paget Seattle, and Donald Paget Bell, Calif.
