Time to Register For YW Classes New fall classes at the YWCA will offer many, excellent instruc tors to teach skills and talents. Registration for classes beginning September 21 started this week and those interested are asked to call the YWCA and register. Oil painting will be offered by Carl HalL Willamette University art professor, on Monday and Tuesday evenings. Mrs. L. C. Mit chell will teach textile painting on Tuesday mornings and Thurs day evenings. A Tuesday evening millinery class will be instructed by Miss Marie Baker, milliner from Miller's Department store. Beginning golf taught by Pro fessional Bunny Mason will meet Thursdays and Saturdays. Thurs day morning beginning bridge will be given by JUrs. Elmer Berg. Thursday evening Mrs. J. L. Steed will teach beginning bridge. Another creative course, copper work, will be directed by Earl Wilson on Thursday eve nings. Two English classes will be giv en on Thursday evenings. Mrs. W. E. Ankeny will have advanced English and Mrs. Lloyd Hockett beginning English. A special Children's Crafts class will meet on aSturday morn ing and a United Nations Study Group will be organized by Mrs. William Van Meter, chairman of the public affairs committee of the YWCA. Tea Will Honor Officers Toda Mrs. Howard Hunsaker will be hostess for an informal tea this afternoon at her home,- 2470 Trade Street, in honor of Mrs. Mabel A. Lockwood, ' national president of the American War Mothers, and Mrs. Glenn Prather, president of the Salem' Chapter, American War Mothers. Members of the chapter, all patriotic organizations and friends of the honor guests are invited to call between 2 and 4 o'clock. A Luncheon Meeting The War Mothers were enter tained at a social meeting on Tuesday at the home, of Mrs. Ben Randall Following the no-host luncheon members sewed for the Camp White veterans. A number of crochet afghans and chair pads made by Mrs. Ida Knight were displayed. Erixon of Portland. Beta Sigma Phi Council Meets First fall meeting of the Beta Sigma Phi council was held Tues day night at the home of the president, Mrs. Joseph Klitzka. Plans were made for a city-wide preferential tea in honor of the new pledges of the chapters on Oct 18 at the home of Mrs. David Bennett Hill between 3 and S p.m. The annual pledge ritual banquet is slated for Nov. 4. Cowen, presi dent of the Salem Woman's Club, and Mrs. Melvin Pilletts were elected delegates to the Third District meeting of the Oregon Federation of Women's Clubs to be held in Oregon City, Sept 30 at the Junior Club's first fall meeting Monday night Mrs. Eugene R. Walper and Mrs.' Bernard O. Grindle Jr. were received as transfer members from the Corvallis club. October 27 was set as the date for the club's fall fashion benefit with Mrs. George W. Statesman, Salem, Ore Thunu Sept 17, IS 53 (Sec 3I Dr. Huffman Speaks The McCormick Class of the First Methodist Church heard Dr. Norman Huffman, . professor of religion at Willamette University, at the Tuesday night meeting in the newly decorated dining room of the church. A covered dish dinner preceded tie meeting. Dr. Huffman ' told of impressions gained while in Greece, Egypt the Holy Land and Italy, where he made a study of the manuscripts of the Vatican. Hostesses for the evening were Mr. and Mrs. IL A. Harris, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hamilton and Miss Ruth and Miss Phebe MeAdams. Rosedale: Visiting at the Floyd Bates home is his sister and brother-in-law Mr. and Mrs. C B. Coppock of Lynwood, California. Mr. and Mrs. Bates entertained Sunday with a dinner in their honor. Louise Paulson Tells Troth WOODBURN-The engagement of Miss Anita Louise Paulson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray mond C. Paulson of Woodburn, to John Van Lieu .son of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Van Lieu of Hubbard, was announced at a family gath ering Friday evening at the home of the bride-elect's parents. No date has been set for the wedding. Mr. Van Lieu, who is tn the army, left Wednesday following a furlough spent at home. He will return to Alaska. Miss Paulson, an honor student graduated from Canby Union high school last year. She is now employed in the secretary of state's office, j Four Corners Mrs. Jess Me Ilnay and son, Ronnie, returned Sunday by plane .from Oakland, Calif. Yhey spent three weeks there and were accompanied home by Mrs. Mcllnay't sister, Mrs. Larene Snider, who will visit here indefinitely. I Regent Appoints Dance Committee STAYTON Court Queen of Peace, CDA met Tuesday at the Forester Hall. Grand Regent Mrs. Rose Bell thanked the mem bers who helped at the rummage sale and also those who donated the clothing sold to the aransients who were caught in the Oregon rain. The surplus clothing will be donated to the Archbishop relief fund. Mrs. Rose Marie Fritz has trans ferred to Court Quen of Peace from Court Capital City, Salem. The Grand Regent appointed Mrs. Edith Albus, Mrs. Barbara Palmer, Mrs. Arlene Frost, Mrs. Bertha BasL Mrs. Monica Fehlen.
