The first livestock shipment of the newly-organized Stockman's Marketing Association made its first shipment Tuesday on one of the hottest days of the year. New Livestock Market Group Now Working The first shipment, consisting of 100 head of fat lambs ' from : the Harrisburg district, went into Portland Tuesday from the new- ly-incorporated Stockman's Live- j stock Marketing Association. The association made up of ; three county Farm Bureaus j those of Linn, Lane and Benton was organized for the purpose of providing livestock producers in j the area up-to-date, reliable mar keting information and facilities through which to market their livestock. The association will also develop orders and assist in the buying program for feeder and replacement of livestock. Wednesday morning another truckload left Linn County and next Monday a truckload of cat tle will be sent into the terminal market Marketing is done at North Portland stockyards through Clark and Benson. The fat lambs were graded be fore leaving the farm, John Lan ders, livestock specialist from Oregon State College, doing the grading. Officers of the new association are Leonard Forster, Tangent, president; Daryl Ross, Eugene, vice president; and Gerald Det-j eririg, Harrisburg, secretary-treasurer. Sitting on the board of di rectors are Paul Rigor, Deck Cheadle, Irvine Heer, Corvallis; James Lamb, Scio; Ernest Cer sovski, Harrisburg; Kenneth La Fon, Fall Creek, and Chester Swensen, Junction City. Jersey Herd Tops County Milk production of Marion County Dairyf Herd Improvement Association cows reached 1,363.- 000 pounds in the production re- j ported Wednesday for the month of June. Three supervisors tested 1 52 herds representing 1,720 cows. (Besides these standard tested herds, 26 additional herds were 1 on owner sampler test Average milk i "oduction came ! up to 972 pounds for the 31 days and 37.3 pounds of butterfat Ten month production records were reported for Bonnie, a Jer sey in the Phillips & Torvend herd, Silverton with 811.4 pounds of butterfat and 14,258 pounds of milk. She was five years old. In the same age group Buford and O r v i 1 1 e Brown's five-year-old I Guernsey recorded 687.4 pounds ! of fat and 15,170 pounds of milk. I C. J. Berning's four year old Hol- stem made 626.7 pounds of fat j and 14,996 pounds of milk in her 305-day record. Racette Bros., Aurora, owns a registered Holstein that gave 2,640 pounds of milk. They include beef, da;ry, dairy goats, dairy herd rec ord keeping, sheep, hoi.", rabbit. p -Itry, horticulture and entom ol"y. Vbnrbe says the changes will bt included in the new -Side p-fmium list to be published soon. They represent suggestions from many groups to provide better educational experiences, larger participation and to elim inate unnecessary regulations. A major change in the live stock rules provides that 4-H an imals in the market classes be judged on a group basis. Market animals, which must grade good, or better to be eligible for any award, will be placed in blue, red and white award groups. Rabbit exhibitors must show their own rabbits which will be judged on a group basis with em phasis on conformation and pro duction.
