MADSEN Garden Editor, The Statesman Valley primrose growers will be exhibiting in Portland Satur day, April 25, when the American Primrose Society will hold its an nual "Primrose Weekend." The Saturday show will be held at the Woman's Club Building at 1220 S. W. Taylor St Some of the entries at the Mt Angel show Sunday were espe cially invited to enter the Ameri can event, by the judges who were all from Portland. "The ML Angel show was most excellent I'm sure that the American Primrose Society show at Portland, couldn't be much better," Mrs. John Karnopp, a member of the Portland show committee, said as she judged Sunday's show at 1ft AngeL Ne Pelyanthma Division Mrs. Karnopp reported that aside from the gold or silver laced polyanthus, there will be no polyanthus exhibited in the Portland show this year. She ex plained that the committee felt it was too late in the season for these ,so did not provide a divi sion for them. The show was set late this year, she went on, to give growers an opportunity to show the late varieties which have usually been neglected in spring Primrose shows. Ten divisions have been pro vided and include Asiatic Primu las, American Species, European Species, Auriculas, Juliae Hy brids, Seiboldii, Double Acaulia, Gold or Silver Laced Polyanthus, Flower arrangements for primu las and any foliage, and minia ture arrangements not over six inches with any primulas with any foliage but not with other flow ers, and the Bench Displays. The flower arrangements are open to school children of any age as well as adults. The bench display is non-competitive and is open to amateurs, commercials, garden clubs or schools. Each display will be allotted approximately a space three by three feet Judging Starts 19 Saturday Entries will be received Friday from 5 to 8 p. m. and Saturday from 8 to 10 a. m. Judging will start at 10 a. m. On Sunday, April 26, members of the American Primrose Society will open their gardens to prim rose visitors and commercial growers have promised to give special attention to" the out-of-town visitors at this time. Under the division of Auricu las and Juliae Hybrids, special classes have been arranged for potted hybrids grown from seed by the exhibitor and not previ ously exhibited. Mrs. O. J. Wilamette Official Gets Scholarship Timothy McDonald, admissions counselor at Willamette Univer sity, has been awarded a gradu ate assistantship in the history de partment of Duke University, it was disclosed today. The assist antship, effective in September, carries a stipend of $1,900. McDonald, who received his B.A. degree from Willamette in February, will apply his graduate "Work to both M.A. and Ph.D. de grees. Re will study under the emminent historian.
