To implement this arrangement, the congregation authorized ne gotiations to secure three lots north of the church, from pri vate owners, for expansion pur poses and sale to the state or otherwise of three lots already owned by the church across the winter -Chemeketa Streets in tersection. The state's purchase of the latter is proposed in House Bill 744 now inr committee. The membership also agreed that studies should be undertak en at once to plan for an orderly bunding program. For Sunday morning s wor ship services at 9:45 and 11,- Dr. Paul N. Poling, pastor, annoenc ed he will preach on "Christian Faith and Loyalty," the relation ship of civil liberties to freedom and security of the nation. This is in regard to recent proposals for Congressional investigation of churches and ministers. Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. the Men's Club will hear State Sen. Philip S. Hitchcock of Klamath Falls give a review of 1953 legislation of special concern to church peo pie. Dr. Ralph C Lewis, one of the last Presbyterian missionaries to leave Communist China, will be the speaker Wednesday for the Women's Association in the aft ernoon and for the mid - week service at 7:30 pjn. Dr. Lewis went to China 20 years ago as a medical missionary. His evening talk will be the fourth in a se ries by the church on the world wide mission. Mission Meet Ends Sunday At Alliance The World Missions Conference, under way this week in Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, will come to a close Sunday with missionaries speaking four times. The Rev. Arthur Mouw, mis sionary to Borneo and West Coast radio speaker, will speak at 9:45 to an open session of the Sunday school, and at 11 o clock to the congregation. At 3 o'clock an afternoon missionary rally is set for the public with Mouw and all other missionary speakers of the week. The conference closes with the service at 7 p.m. Features will Include the Rev. Orville Brooks of Syria and a missionary film short photographed by him on the field. Sauerweln, pastor of Kingwood Bible Church for the past 2Va years has submit ted his resignation. He will re main at the church for another month or two (before going into itinerant Bible teaching and con ference work. A successor has not been named. Sauerweln has held pastorates in many sections of the country. The 36-voice choir of Pacific Bible Institute of Fresno will sing in the Sunday morning worship service at the Kingwood Bible church. The Rev. Alex H. Sauer wein will preach. The a cappella choir is on a concert tour which will take them to British Columbia. They plan to return and give a full concert in the Kingwood Church on Friday evening at 8 o clock. a Presbyterians at Gervais Become Self-Sustaining GERVAIS The Presbyterian Church of Gervais, organized July 18, 1884, has always been a home mission church by receiving part of its financial aid from the Board of National Missions of the Presbyterian Church in the United States. In 1952 the amount of $550 was received. It has been decided that the church would go on a self-supporting basis and contribute to its current $3,500 annual budget by contributions from members. ' This is part of the state-wide program of expansion of the As sociation In organizing new church, 37 in the past four years. The area In West Salem has long been under consideration by the association as a possible site. The missionary emblem is in the form of two world globes with a lighted torch between. Art work has been done by Miss Dar lene Engdahl of Salem.
