2-B f cariPuS fee i Eight teams and the first-round pairings for them are now set for the District 2-B basketball tourna ment which' Is to be held in the Willamette University Gym start ing Thursday afternoon. Win; er of the three-day, single - elimination tournament will qualify for the state Class B tournament, also to be held at Willamette, next week. Four of the teams hail from Mar lon County Mill City, Jefferson, Sublimity and GervaisThey fin ished the Marion County B League championship race in that order. Valsetx High will be the Polk County representative . after hav ing won the county tournament last weekend. Amity High will be the Yamhill County entry and both Cotton and Corbctt will cosoe from the Clackamas-Multnomah sector, rounding out the tourney field. . Mill City and Gervais will open the tournament in the 2:30 p. m. game Thursday. Then at 4 p. m. Jefferson goes against Amity High. At seven o'clock Thursday night Valsetz . takes on Corbett, . and at 8:43 Sublimity closes out first lowing the consolation game, be tween the two Friday night los ers. . v i-.'-j . The remaining vacant places will be filled this week by the winners of various conference champion-, ships still undecided. The choice of Brigham Young as the 12th entry in the NTT was on an if" basis, depending upon the outcome of the Skyline Con ference race. BYU still has an outside chance to tie Wyoming for the title. . , If that happens, there will be a playoff, with the winner going Into the NCAA - tournament, and Stother team will be selected for e NTT. St Louis University, pre viously had been picked on a sim ilar basis. . If there is no tie, BYU will play Niagara University in a first round game ' next Monday night. The other three first round games win be played Saturday in a tri pleheader at Madison Square Gar den. .i ' "At Provo, Utah, BYU Director of Athletics Eddie Kimball an nounced acceptance of the quali fied bid to the NIT and said it was, hoped that, by the flip of - a coin or possible conference action, a playoff with Wyoming could be avoided if the two schools tied for the Skyline Title.
